Neil Warnock claimed West Bromwich’s Craig Dawson got away with “assault” after his challenge on Crystal Palace’s Julián Speroni.

Warnock said: “It’s almost an assault, how one of the four officials can’t be in a position to see that. Dawson had smashed him in the face and I am lost for words. He’s had a two- or three-yard run-up and smashed him in the face. No wonder Julián is a bit groggy. He wanted to carry on.

“I’ve had enough talking to the FA. I have not seen something like that since Bert Trautmann.

    Selective memory much?

He was right, the guy came in from three yards out and goes into him with elbow straight in face. Nearly decapitated Speroni.

The referee in that game obviously didn't like colin. He gave every decision to the opposition. I've seen some bad performances over the years but that was one of the most biased. And I don't like Colin ...

LEGEND ??? He played 57 times for Barnsley and scored 10 goals, from my memory of him he was no more than a trier, no more no less.

I guess you're referring to the Morgan/Hume incident, but it was Kevin Blackwell who managed Sheff Utd at the time. I would imagine Warnock opened his big trap about it though and exonerated Morgan, so maybe that's where his selective memory comes in to play.

It seems fashionable to like Neil Warnock these days. I don't know how he's got himself in to that position but it relies on us forgetting a hell of a lot of shitty things he's done and said. I can't bring myself to do that.

He contributed far less than his predecessor Graham Felton. Felton arrived on loan from Northampton January 1976 with us at the bottom of the entire football league and provided the balance our team had been sadly lacking all season. By the time he returned to the eventual Runners Up at the season's closing stages, we'd had a massive upturn in performances & moved comfortably into mid table, with Felton making a massive contribution to our improvement.
Unfortunately when he signed on permanently that Summer, he was never able to re discover the form he'd shown whilst on loan. Warnock came in from Aldershot to offer competition to the right wing position. He was inconsistent at best for the remainder of the season. At the start of the following season (1977/78), Warnock produced his best spell of form for us up to Christmas, scoring seven goals and producing some excellent performances, including scoring the only goal of the game in our FA Cup 1st Round victory over Huddersfield Town. Sadly, his form tailed off dramatically after Christmas to the point where Jon Nixon was brought in as his replacement.
Nixon made his debut against Huddersfield in the league match, with Warnock the substitute. Half way through the second half, with the scores level at 1-1 and Barnsley down to 10 men after Pugh's sending off, Warnock replaced the tiring Nixon. Within a couple of minutes his irresponsibility and unprofessionalism came to the fore when he deliberately kicked one of his opponents in the air. He deservedly got sent off. Thankfully, his remaining team mates showed they were made of stronger stuff than Warnock and held on for a draw.
Warnock hardly played again and at the nd of the season was given a free transfer, thus missing out on the Allan Clarke revolution that began that Summer.
Warnock a Barnsley legend? A load of bovine excrement.

If I remember rightly he was on the radio a few days after the incident giving support to Morgan basically saying he was a tough lad but it the incident was getting taken out of context and that nothing malicious actually happened.

Well he wasnt there but he did come out with some idiotic statements when Morgan elbowed Hume so the selective memory comment has some validity.

It doesnt make him wrong on that challenge though it was a dreadful challenge and the guy should have been sent off - the only tricky decision is whether the ball was already over the line when the foul took place, if it was the goal should have stood as it was a player in front of Spironi who cleanly headed in - you cant disallow a goal for a foul after it crossed the line
