I somehow can't seem to generate much enthusiasm about it.... yet.
And I know why.
When we played at the old Wembley against Ipswich we'd obviously had a good season, a cracking win over Birmingham, and we were going to Wembley. Absolutely fantastic.
When we went to Cardiff we'd also had a goodish season finished off with that great away win at Hudds.
Both times we'd reached the playoffs through being successful.
However this time where are we? One point above relegation. Have a dreadful, abysmal away record. Can't score goals to save our life. Haven't scored in any S.Yorks derby game..... and so on and so on.
It all piles up to leave me feeling a tad apathetic.
Of course I want us to win, goes withoput saying, but I can't help feeling uninspired.
Not wanting to be over-miserable, we could lose on Sunday and still be relegated, then how would we describe our season?
Sorry for being depressing but as I say it's how I feel.
Come Sunday morning I'll be as chipper as can be, and I'll enjoy the day whatever the result.

I can separate the two

I am very, very excited about Sunday and right royally fooked off at this season's away form and the fact that no improvement has been made in league position despite, for us, extravagant spending.

I'll second that...

just can't quite get excited about it...yet.

Can't help but fear for our league position. Wednesday always get out of it, and at least Southampton have goals in them.

Southampton can't score for toffee at the moment

5-0 loss at Hull, 0-0 draw v Cov, 1-0 loss at Cardiff recently spring to mind...

Whatever happens on Sunday we should not forget that these are the players that have done better than any others for 96 years. Many reds fans never got to see us play in a semi final. Many more never got to see us beat not just one but two of the top teams in the country. Let's at least praise these players for that achievement this season. Maybe they have taken their eye off the ball recently but just think of the enormity of the game on Sunday. Even if we lose we have a lot to be thankful for. Something we will probably never see again. If we lose to a better team on the day so be it at least then there can be nothing to take our minds off the league. And if we win we are in the FA Cup final. Really it's a win/win scenario. Of course we could lose and still go down but they can't take Chelsea and Liverpool away from us just like they can't take a season in the Premier league. That's why we support the reds and not a team who expect to win something every year
Let's be positive for a change whatever happens we'll still be supporting our team

Full of emotion

That is what footy is all about top post mate.

I for one am having difficulty sleeping and there's something wrong with all my clocks - every second lasts about a decade. Can't wait!

I would pee on a spark plug if I thought it would get us to the final.

Must agree to some extent, our league season has been a nightmare, especially our away form. The goals we have scored away from home is the worst outside the premiership. The missed chances, poor referees, tactics, injuries, out of form strikers and players just to scared to get booked or injured, have seen our league season go from great expectations to the dark abbys.

But HEY, come on now, we are in the semi-final of the greatest cup competition this footballing country as got. Thousands of teams, amateur, semi pros, professional, and premiership clubs have embarked on the long journey to win the FA Cup. Millions of fans up and down the country have dreamed that their beloved club who they have supported for decades would reach Wembley, either in the semi-final or the final. But guess what, little old Barnsley are two games away from winning the thing, and with a 34,000 shouting throng we could reach the final. Who says it's been a poor season, your having a laugh surley!!! :D

I don't think some of the Reds fans realize how big the FA Cup is, and how in 10 years time (If we won it) Barnsley Football Club would be there - 2008 - WINNERS, amongst Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal of recent winners. We will never get this chance again and I personally, would take the FA CUP over staying up.
Be another day out at Wembley in a couple of years time - if we got relegated - League 1 Play Off Final!!!

"Just My Opinion thats all folks!"

What will you remember before your last breath?

Getting to Wembley for the semi final, final or even winning the bloody thing?

Or staying up by one point by scraping a draw at Ninian Park?

Not a difficult question is it?

We will probably go up and down a dozen more times before my time is up, but this is an FA cup semi final for heaven's sake. The final is probably the third most important match in the history of football, after the world cup and champions league finals. Wins hands down in my book.

To be totally honest, when we went to Wembley the first time round, I knew we were definately going to lose - Ipswich had our number big time that season, they were the perfect antidote to whatever we could do. Hammered at their place, beaten convincingly at ours - I'd have happily played Man City instead (who finished second) because I was equally convinced that we could do them. So I went to enjoy the day out. In the end, if the circumstances had only been a little bit different and Barnard had potted that penalty, we actually could have won. I was gutted when we lost, but it was a 'being gutted' because I knew we were in the **** financially, and that Hignett was going, not because we weren't going to the Premier League again - I never really got that idea into my head in the first place.

As for this time - it's different, it's fairy tale stuff. There is no sense at all in Barnsley playing Cardiff in the F.A. Cup semi-final. And us having to beat Liverpool and Chelsea to get there is barmy. SO it's league form out the window, who the hell knows what is going to happen? We might get stuffed, we might stuff them, we might just win, we might just lose. At this stage, it's fair to say I'm scared. I don't think for a minute that we're going to win the F.A. Cup, but when the run comes to an end, I'll probably be in tears. It's just such a massive thing, this and the threat of relegation. In all honesty, the most probable outcome will be us going out of the cup, and not getting relegated either, and at the end of the day, I think we'd all settle for that. Come what may, it won't be boring, will it?

I know what you mean Dave, it should be the biggest

week weve had and yet with the league position and all the negativity on here it seems to be dampening down the exitement, if i thought we would win the cup i would settle for another season in the lower div, financially i believe it would be worth it, so people are saying we would lose our better players, well, if that were the case they wern good enough (league wise) were they,
you redzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
come sunday am i will be BUZZING, sleep is difficult now, 5 sleeps to go :)
