With a bit of luck by this time tomorrow Barnsley will be Yorkshire's number one.
When was the last time Barnsley were the highest placed Yorkshire team in the football leagues?

    Cleveland was abolished in 1996

Middlesbrough has it's own unitary authority, but it's still within North Yorkshire.

I thought it had been abolished but I was sent a christmas card and it said greetings from Cleveland on it, so I just thought I was wrong, thanks for restoring my faith in my brain.

Sorted it out now , they live in Guisborough, which is in Redcar and Cleveland area. Which is why they still use Cleveland, although this too is part of North Yorkshire again now.

According to wikipedia (yes I had to check)

Middlebrough and Hull are both in Yorkshire. Could be a while until we're Yorkshire's top club.
