First half, the team looked exactly what they are, young, inexperienced strangers. I followed the flight of the ball, so didn't see why their player was sent off.
The second half was played at a better tempo and our young team kept it simple and accurate, building up their understanding & appreciation of each other as the match progressed. Lalkovic looked impressive when he came on and played a big part in the best move of the match, which led to the penalty and second goal.
I don't recall Turnbull having to make a worthwhile save in the entire match, though Yeovil did miss an absolute sitter after M'voto's horrendous mistake before the sending off.
All in all, I'm a happy, but very cold, bunny tonight. Warm mulled wine awaits.

Feel a little disheartened myself I thought we were absolutely terrible. Might just be the fact I haven't felt my toes since 2pm though making me. grumpy.

once again the voice of reason

that's the point I have been trying to make too matey. If you include the long absent M'voto then we had six new faces on the pitch at some point today... so a 2 goal win and a clean sheet is a great result... surely it can only get better... just as the second half did apparently.

Yes, we won 2-0 without really playing that well, although there were some very good performances out there. It was just the kind of match we needed though with all the young inexperienced new faces in the team. I though Kiwomya had a quiet game, but the rest of the new lads looked the part and I've no doubt that we're going to improve over the coming weeks. Pearson particularly looks to be the kind of player we've been missing and having him in the team will hopefully help Digby. And despite what others may have posted I was impressed with Waring, who got very little help from the referee. Smith looked like a rookie at times today, but he wasn't helped by the rest of the players running in the opposite direction when he had the ball. He stuck with it though. But Holgate is already looking a class act. He's going to be on the radar of a lot of clubs soon.

Re: once again the voice of reason

For a lad who has played so few league games, Holgate was excellent today. Smith in only his second league game was solid and is a huge improvement on the experienced waste of space we had in that position last season. Digby & M'voto were playing their first league games for quite some time. Williams was making only his second substitute appearance after stepping up from a non league level below the Conference. Then you take into account the number of young kids making their debuts for us, as well as making their league debut, along with a game spoiling high wind & you're hardly likely to have a game of football that reaches the levels of a Real Madrid/Barcelona clash.
However, the young lads gradually got more & more into the game with their understanding of one another developing as the match unfolded.
I really like the look of Milan Lalkovic with his speed and skill. So I'm expecting to be told by someone with far more footballing knowledge than me why he's not really very good and flatters to deceive.:D

I thought there were reasonable extenuating circumstances for our display. But, as you know, I regularly get told I haven't actually seen what I think I've seen.:)

    absolutely my point

no I was not there but did listen to player, reading between lines told me just about all you say there. We will be ok this season IMHO... we might not get to challenge in the promotion stakes.. but I do think we will not fear relegation either. Hopefully the sifting of players over a season or two will get us a team capable of promotion to the Champs... I think it took Mr Wilson more than a heartbeat to achieve with us last time he was in the seat... but hey nowadays its a requirement for instant success to most of the 'EA SPORTS' "Football manager" types of soccer fan we have. We are gonna be fine, and we will go up in the not too distant future... and yes I believe Mr Wilson will take us there too.

I'm simply enjoying the comfortable victory

If others want to persistently nit pick and complain, that's their prerogative and right. If they're unable to enjoy the victory, it's neither my problem nor concern.

It's nice to get back to winning ways at Oakwell. We were poor in the first half, which I can accept due to all the new signings in the squad. Second half we eventually made the most of Yeovil being down to ten men. I didn't see the red card incident but I thought their defender got a touch on the ball for the penalty.

Some positives to take from the game, though. Pearson looks like he has all the attributes to be the midfielder we've been crying out for. Waring and Williams looked comfortable, and Lalkovic impressed in his cameo appearance.

Very fair summary. The red card was for a punch after the ball had gone. Blatant red card. As for the new signings, Pearson could very well be the holding midfield player we've been searching for. It certainly allowed Hourihane to venture forward more, although he was pretty wasteful today in front of goal. Kiwomya showed glances of skill, he looks a little one footed for my liking but I think he'd benefit from the ball in behind rather than having to beat a man. Waring had a good game I thought considering he was kicked in the air all afternoon, scored one and held the ball up pretty well. Lalkovic looks the business. Would like to see him start.

But Mason Holgate, I was ecstatic when he got his chance, as the little I'd seen of him previously he looked a quality defender. Boy has he taken his chance well. Thrived in his natural position today. And he's such a good footballer too, that little turn was exceptional to turn Yeovil pressure into a Barnsley break away.

Hard fought win. Would rather win ugly than lose playing passing possession football every day of the week.

Obviously I wasn't there today but given our precarious league position pre kick off I'm absolutely over the moon with that result.

Good performance or not I really don't care. It was 2-0 and credit must go to the players. A win is a win and that result must surely give some much needed confidence to the side. Something to build on.

    Let's enjoy the moment.

Yes it was comfortable, but I do fear we might get the run around next week.

Can't complain with any of the youngsters, but I would like to see some more senior players on the pitch. Think Jennings was unlucky to be left out.

Holgate has been fantastic, and I was impressed with the way Pearson kept it simple. Just wish we had Winnall back.

I'm simply enjoying today's victory. They've got a week's training together now in preparation for Donny. Some of the injured players may return & offer the manager alternatives. I certainly don't fear the opposition next Saturday.

Don't worry, I'm enjoying today's victory in the simplest way I know. :)

    Cheers.
