So, it was issues between 1575AM and the site owners then? Funny thing is I just looked on the site to read this notice but now, five mins later, it has disappeared from the front page (you can find it if you drill down far enough). We were, apparently, promised business as usual by the start of the season though. In other words, we might get regular commentaries or, then again, we might not! Any chance of getting a service that we pay for that actually WORKS EVERY TIME???
As far as I am concerned - the issue is with Barnsley World/Premium TV they are the ones offering to provide the service. I've lost count of how many times we have been promised commentary only to receive the silent treatment. That's what I will be telling them when and if I get a reply to my complaint of last night.
First Match Night.......... with a new boss in charge of the station and there's problems. Hopefully just early teething problems.
RE: As far as I am concerned - the issue is with Barnsley World/Premium TV I was really looking forward to hearing it last night. I know it wasn't going to be exciting, but at least football was back! But no.....nothing! I can only get them for midweek games anyway seeing as I travel back to Gloucester every weekend, and my computer is here in Buckinghamshire, so you can imagine how annoying it is when one of my precious opportunities to listen in is lost like that. After all this time they should have it just about right by now, or is that asking too much? (chinny)
We are there every week providing commentary... It's not that we don't provide the service. It's nothing to do with Andy taking over the station or being away last night, all normal procedures were done. We dial the required number to connect to the Premium TV line so we're streaming on that, but it also requires them to sort it at their end - which a number of times they have not done.
We sometimes get problems with video conferencing here As you say, you dial up the number provided and then rely on people at the other end to do THEIR bit right. If they don't there is no video conference. Same principles with your radio link. I doubt that anybody would blame 1575AM for the problems - I'm sure your guys do what they are supposed to do but are at the mercy of the technology..
RE: We sometimes get problems with video conferencing here Aye, was just clearing it up... I'm not the technical man at 1575, to be honest I know very little about it, but I know that someone always connects to the right number and we want everyone to be able to listen... Like you say unfortunately we rely on everything working at the other end.
Is there any explanation as to why they didn't show up on the radio? I think I got Ant and Dec instead waffling on about Newcastle, pies and general chit chat. The ball must have been out of play for long periods at a time as I think at one stage they managed a full 4 minutes without describing what was happening on the field. On more than one occasion I think Wigan must have been playing the long ball as we were on the attack and the next that was heard was Colgan making a save. As I'm usually at home games I don't know if last night's was the usual standard but it was the worst radio commentary I've heard, and before anyone asks, no I don't think I could do any better but then again I'm not professing to be a commentator.
Commentating on friendlies... Is very difficult as the game is played at such a leisurely pace and very little happens usually - that was the case for much of last night. I don't know what you listened to because we spent any time not describing the game discussing what we thought of all the new players and trying to give listeners an idea of what these new lads are like and how they might do for us. We talked nothing but football. Commentating on a competitive game is a completely different kettle of fish. Hope that clears it up. PS, Newcastle and pies were not in the converstion
1575 pays for a licence to broadcast yes. Not sure what the deal is with Premium TV, don't think any money changes hands but don't quote me on that.
Apologies to eveybody who expected Barnsley world coverage yesterday evening and didn't receive any. I can only assume that the problem lay at Premium TV's end, as the number was dialled several times and the broadcast was clearly audible down our own internal phone line. I know this sounds like the usual spiel, but subscribers can rest assured that we will be doing everything we possibly can to ensure that things are rectified and that everyone gets a smooth service throughout the 2007/08 campaign and beyond. As Allen says, we want as many people to hear us as possible and it matters to us if our prospective listeners can't tune in - either on their radio or via the internet. Cheers for your feedback and patience. Matt Bailey (in the absence of Andy Firth)
RE: Commentating on friendlies... Ok fair point if the game was so pedestrian But you did mention Titus Bramble's record at Newcastle at some length and you also mentioned the fans in "pre-season training" having a pie! And you got the Odejaye sub wrong, you mentioned that Ferenczi had gone off for him and then I hear both players mentioned in the commentary before you mentioned it was Mostto who had gone off! Competitive games I'm usually there, but I'll have a listen for the Darlington game.
You heard wrong mate... We said we suspected that it would be Kay on for Stan but as soon as the change was made I said that Mostto was coming off. We did speak in a relaxed chatty way last night I agree, but it went along with the relaxed nature of the game. Talking about opposition players is part of the job. Apologies if you didn't enjoy it but I can assure you it will be a lot more serious come August 11.
Where Premium TV Are Mentioned......... it always seems to be bad news. The sooner we distance ourselves from them the better.
