England had a fantastic tournament, it was a shame that the winner had to be decided like this. I think England played well even today, Italy were just luckier this time. No point blaming anyone for this. I'm not English but even I found the penalty shootout absolutely awful to watch - I don't know how you folks managed to do it (if you did)! I feel so sorry for Saka and the other youngsters who will have to take the blame for this. I feel sorry for Southgate who did a terrific job, and then fell at the last hurdle - those last substitutions sadly didn't work out. I feel sorry for those fans who actually cared about the football and not fighting each other or insulting little girls - I suppose it would have been nice if football had paid a little visit back home... But that time will come, the future is looking bright for England. I loved this tournament and I hope that many of you did as well. Onwards and upwards!
Well said Tomi, as much as I am disappointed and indeed, hurting, life goes on, and there should be no recriminations. After all, we are the second best side in Europe at the moment. Looking forward to the domestic season now, Come on you Reds
Yooooooooo redddddddds all day every day. But this England side have given us hope in the world cup. Exciting times on both fronts.
Well put Tomi. Its been a good competition, we've got the furthest in an international competition than we have in 55 years, with a young team who can only improve. I'm feeling optimistic about the future.
Thanks for this Tomi. I think we stand a good chance in the World Cup. What is a successful tournament though? Does it have to be only if you win it? England got further than most people expected and are in the top six best sides in the world. We’re competing with the best teams now - five years ago we lost to Iceland. Did Barnsley not have a successful season last year because we didn’t win anything? Personally I’ll have got over it by lunchtime today. I’m still upset about the FA Cup in 2008.
We need to find a combative all action box to box midfielder before December 2022. We lost the game last night because we didn't have enough of the ball in the right areas. We were passing sideways and backwards allowing the Italians 5 men in our half for much of the game. Nobody tried to burst through the lines,
I suppose that England and Finland fans have slightly different views on this! For us, just qualifying for our first ever major tournament was a cause for great celebration. Then we got a surprise victory, two narrow but "respectable" defeats, and although it was disappointing to see a place in the knockout stage slip away after such a great start, everyone seemed fairly content. Of course things are different for England who should always expect to qualify, but why are the expectations beyond that so high when the last decades haven't exactly been full of glory? Normally I've ranked England one step below the very best of teams, but I think you've finally managed to climb back to the top category. The problem is that you're not alone up there - there are a few others in Europe alone, and since there can only be one winner, someone's always going to be disappointed. The victory was within your grasp and you were so close to making it, so I understand the massive disappointment, but I think you should still be proud of such a great achievement and optimistic about the future.
