Massive increase in attendance on the last Saturday home game. Big pat on the back for the marketing department. Or was it all the rain's fault?
The blame list includes......... * Rain. * Too close to christmas. * Poor opposition. * Still too expensive. * I want to be able to stand. * I want to be able to smoke where I want.
To be fair If you compare the visitors this week against last week (Wolves) the figure was about 1500 less so todays figure was probably an increase in home support.
How To Get Morty To Oakwell Step By Step 1. Pick him up at a time that he wants to be picked up. 2. Pay for him to get into the ground. 3. Allow him to stand and smoke somewhere. 4. Drive him home. How close am I mate You should come to Bramall Lane next week. Train will be packed when it gets to your village and so you'll get there and back for nothing
sarcky git went to the lane every week from 66/71 cos in them days reserves played at home alternate weeks
RE: sarcky git went to the lane every week from 66/71 You Wombwell Reds have your own coach you can use to get there and back
problem is YOU CAN'T MAGIC FANS FROM NOWHERE 10,000 plus with little away support is very good attendance for us especially on a day like today. We are not the biggest team and unless we're in a play off final or facing Wednesday there are only so many Barnsley fans, and to get some of the people who only come when Wednesday are in town to Oakwell would require sucha reduction that the club would probably lose money as it is likely the increase in numbers would not be so great.
RE: COMMUNIITY DAY Must admit to being dissapointed with the attendance, but with the weather I am not surprised that people would stay away, it was not pleasant. That said that was a very poor away following (although vocal), however and I suspect we did put some numbers on the gate, otherwise it may have been as low as Blackpool. On behalf of the Supporters Trust, I would like to thank everyone who helped to put up the posters and advertise the game. When we met with the club to agree the community day, we told the club that we would advertise the game, and I would like to think that we achieved that side of the bargain. I thought the posters were superb, thanks to EX City Tyke, Harrow Tyke and others who worked on producing and sorting the printing of them. Cheers Owen
Well Done for trying. On hindsight it may have been better to have had the Community Day after Christmas, say on the 29th December and then the Club/yourselves could have organised a few other events to get more Families to attend.
RE: Well Done for trying. The idea behind pre christmas was that it is an expensive time, gates are often reduced due to christmas shopping (why????) and we have had a few expensive games recently After Christmas the club are doing a similar promotion for the Blackpool FA Cup Game (details below from club website. RE: Well Done for trying. "The idea behind pre christmas was that it is an expensive time, gates are often reduced due to christmas shopping (why????)"</p> If the gates are often reduced then why be disappointed? They may have otherwise been much lower. Looks like your posters did the trick. i know i'dhave been down to Oakwell like a shot if I'd seen one.</p> Oh and the "why?????" is probably down to the fact that they make you pay for your shopping. The greedy b4stards.</p>
Sheffield wednesday had a drop in attendance of 4,000 compared to their last home game. Rotherham also had a lower attendance today than their last home game. Same weather conditions and christmas for all the local teams and we all seem to have had a drop in attendance, ours however was a drop in away fans rather than a drop in home fans so I think that considering the club did very little advertising to those who wouldnt be going anyway we did well
Not being able to go thru work I ask the question I have asked before, did the extra fans see anything to make them want to go again?
The home gate was nearly a 1,000 up Wolves - 9,956 with 1,000 away fans Palace - 10,298 with 400 away fans
