There's a clear difference in strategy. We're clearly only trying to sign players who we think will be good enough for the Championship and we're going to have a relatively small squad.

Compare that to the disastrous summer under Flitcroft when we offered contracts to everyone whether they were good enough or not p, signed players who weren't particularly good, and had a massive, but lacking in quality, squad

Whilst I'm disappointed to see Williams leave, I think it's quite impressive that we're being proactive in terms of contracts and recruitment. We're not just offering contracts to everyone just because they did well in League 1

I think its more comparable when you look at the last time we got promoted. Back then we signed 2 (I think) first team players in McIndoe and Togwell while we basically said the rest of the squad got us here so lets give them a chance. We never really recovered from that for our remainder of our time in the championship, constantly stagnating around the drop zone. As much as I liked Williams, its good to see a ruthless approach from the club this time, getting rid of players who are probably not quite up to the step up and bringing in players we believe are good enough.

Yes but withdrew it following discussions between coaching staff. Either they decided Williams took too long, or decided that he wouldn't get much game time and we could sign better players

We've just let one of the best young fullbacks in League One last season go for nothing. It's stretching things somewhat to try and turn it into a strategic triumph.

We sold Golbourne for **** knows how much and I'm not sure he was any better than Williams. Defo worth a contract

Let's see who comes in to replace him then.

Williams may not have been a championship starter but he was a decent squad player for the championship. Always gave 100% which was more than most flicker signed. And at still only 23 he will only improve so still gutted to see him go my self.

I liked Williams as much as the next person but he was no more than a steady eddy league one full back for a couple of months. Maybe he'll go on to better things in the future but right now, he wouldnt be good enough for the championship.

A steady eddy league one full back. Are we talking about the same player here because the Williams I watched was ******* outstanding in the second half of last season.

This is whats wrong with this board, far too over the top. He filled in very well, but he's a limited player. Do you really think he'd be good enough against the likes of Tom Ince, Forestieri, Redmond, Russell etc everyweek? Because I know I dont. Steady league one player who filled in very well but lets put it into context.
