Toshiba A 60 overheats and cuts out after about 40 minutes use.
Sounds as if fan is working o.k.
Will not work off the batteries alone. Wonder if batteries are knackered and that's why it overheats
What is cost of replacing batteries? Or does the laptop need replacing?
    Many thanks

    Remove the battery altogether

Run it off mains alone. If it still does it I can't see how replacing the battery will help.
It may just be dust in the heatsink. That's the most common problem.
However, getting at it to clean it in that model is an utter sod.

If you're confident follow this guide to step 8.
Take a look at the pic in stage 12 (page 2 of guide, click on pic to enlarge). Clean out any fluff accumulations you can see. You can take the hoover to the copper fins next to the fan. It may even be worth following the guide to step 12, removing the heatsink, cleaning it outside the chassis and cleaning underneath it.
