Can you get to control panel ? Either by pressing cntrl&esc or by pressing cntrl/alt/del - new task - type cntrlpnl.cpl.

Go to Taskbar and Start Menu settings. Click "lock taskbar" / apply. Then untick it and apply again.

    Should do the trick.

Have you tried running the virus scan at PCpitstop? If it runs then it might be able to tell you if you've got anything. http://www.pcpitstop.com/antivirus/default.asp
