My HP office PC is getting knackered and I am thinking of a replacement. I need to make my lap top and that compatable and the laptop is XP.

Should I buy a 'Vista' system, is it easy to work with, or buy a XP proffesional system, which are reasonably cheap at the moment.

Gets a bit confusing with the many advances in technology, any help would be appreciated.

    Personally

I'd stick with XP - you can always upgrade later if you need to - but XP will be supported for some time yet,
Also not sure all your apolication software will work on vista yet.
Having said that I havent played with Vista much so I may be talking rubbish

I have a Mac. I produce files for Digital & Litho printing in Illustrator. on PC and then convert to Mac files for the printers use.
The PC programmes are more understandable like Serif Page Plus and Photo Plus. Get completely lost in Mac Photoshop.

listen carefully..STAY WELL AWAY FROM VISTA ITS *****

my new laptop has VISTA I wish the dammed thing on no one .I would not even wish VISTA on my worst enemy. Its god dammed awful. It has been released (as always) way too early. Not many of existing software programmes (let alone hardware)get on with it right away..Go again with XP I implore you, and when they finally get VISTA working properly(many think 12 months time) then maybe upgrade.... I am having to take mine to a specialist to get VISTA removed and XP in...VISTA is a swine to shift by the way...I would rather have umpteen dozen Viruses and Trojans and watever than VISTA.......was that clear enough sweety.

Ive changed to an intel dual core Mac

So far it is just brilliant, going to get used to it first as a Mac then will probably put one of the windows systems on it. Cant wait for the new "lepoard" OS to come out it looks unbelievable.

Talked to my IT technician on Friday about this

He's staying clear of it at the moment - says it'll take at least another 12 months to stabilise it. He told me he was sticking with XP

The Apple internet browser"Safari" public beta is available for PCs here. www.apple.com/safari/download/ worth downloading as an alternative and gives an idea what Apples are like
