My little computer is riddled with a virus.... keeps shutting down for no reason.
Tried all the patches and anti virus things etc etc
Last resort is to totally remove all programs and start again.... i have all the discs, word, excell etc ,,,, is it easy??? is it just a matter of going into setting and removing the programs on the list?

    Any advice gretaly appreciated !!!???!!!

Not that easy if you don't know what you are doing. My advice if you've virus scanned etc. is that its the remote control procedure shutdown. the virus is not strictly on your machine and enters via the Windows messenger port. I assume you're running Windows XP, if so make sure your firewall is turned on , then do ALL the Windows Updates. The firewall should protect you from shutdown. To turn on the firewall, press START, then CONNECT TO. This opens a window. RIGHT CLICK on your Internet Connection, then click PROPERTIES. Press the ADVANCED tab, and ensure the Firewall is ON> Apply, OK, then restart.
That should cure the shutdown problem. Also, RIGHT CLICK on My Computer, click PROPERTIES, then the REMOTE TAB. Ensure both boxes are unticked. Apply, OK and restart.
