Anyone else have the same worries as me over our management team. I have this horrible feeling that they are going to walk away in the summer, not into another job but quit due to false promises from the board. Couple of factors: Hill stated that he was promised a certain budget to work with which he accepted, that budget has been reduced and never materialised. Don Rowing stated last week that money was available to Hill to bring players in, yesterday another statement from Rowing said that the SALE of Vaz Te helped to bring the 2 new players in but were these were planned before the sale of VAZ. Hills demeanour in interviews, he seems so despondent and looks a broken man at times. Hillcroft are the best thing to happen to Barnsley FC in years but without the backing and broken promises won't be here long wether that be poached by a bigger team or to walk away from it all I for one hope they are here for years to come, but something tells me they will be gone end of season
Hill is being let down by some fans as much as the board but unless something happens such as Bolton or Blackburn coming in for him I think they'll still be here. I can't see him walking, not at this stage anyway.
I can't see it myself. Hill has stated in the past week that Dawson and Golbourne are signings with next season already in mind and that hes tried very hard to secure the signiture of a league two player with the view of him having a massive sell on value to the club in a few years time!! My worry is ore of him being so successful that he is poached by a bigger club and we are left like Rochdale!!!
A mid table finish this season and a decent start next season and l can see them both going to a bigger Championship club, similar to what Malky Mackay did at Watford. There's selling your best players off to balance the books and then there's having a jumble sale, and l imagine Hill will soon get pissed off with trying to piss in the wind all the time. He knew he had a little budget to play with but l bet he didn't expect this. I wonder if Butterfield had gone if we would have also flogged Vaz Te? Enjoy it while it lasts with these two, best entertainment down at Oakwell since 'Arry was in charge.
It would have masked the long term problems for me. IMO his reign was indicative of the follies of a one season gamble on promotion at all cost, complete short terminism that laid the foundations for all our long term problems, on and off the field, that followed.
Thought it was a remarkable season after the complete f**k up we had endured the previous season. 82 points and 88 goals, only Man U in the whole country scored more that year, can't remember too much hoofball about it, Barnard, Shipps and Higgy all got 15 goals or more, and a good day out at Wembley at the end of the season where the team gave it a real go, not like that cack a few years ago. Then we signed Alex Neil and Kevin Dixon....
He signed players like Ripley, Chettle, Tuttle, Thomas, Woan, all on massive wages and they were all past it. Let players like De Zeeuw and Eaden go to finance it too. The year we got to Wembley was totally based on outstanding seasons from Morgan and Hignett. I really think that appointment was the turning point in Barnsley's future direction and started the difficult times that followed. Maybe I am being harsh and I will never forget my day out at Wembley but I think he was the wrong appointment
i think there's a lot of truth in that. We also had expectation for the first time ever and the loss of Redfearn the year before and the swift break up of those that had gotten us promoted also added to the issues.
We were sitting in 14th after 23 games when he got the sack, it was tight down the bottom but l reckon he would have done ok given the full season.... then Spackman took over, in my opinion l thought thats when the problems began. If we are looking at the bigger picture the real problems began when we sh*t ourselves at the departure of Wilson and wrongly appointed Hendrie, we had a Premiership side that had only lost Redfearn and had a very good chance of going straight back up, we could have followed in Bolton's footsteps, if only.....
In fairness to Spackman (who was not very good) he had to overhaul a squad of OAPs. We're not going to agree on this one I'm afraid. I can't ever see Bassett as anything more than a long ball manager who (indulged by the club) gambled on going up in one go rather than building a successful sustainable squad. But at least we do agree that Hill is doing a fantastic job!
i think the next club that Hill goes to will only get Mr Hill, This club would be a fantastic opportunity for Flicker to cut his teeth as a manager and in all honesty its a opportunity i don't think he could turn down
