Both are very difficult and challenging achievements. Hopefully Cav will increase his record tomorrow and both are in with a good chance in the road cycling at the Olympics... And with the turn of pace Cav showed to win yesterday if he gets a clean sprint the only person beating him is on a motorbike (and I'm not sure that would beat him!)
Momentous There has been quite an investment in British cycling but long was it overdue and how it has paid off. Massively. The last decade has seen a phase shift in world cycling. From domination on the track to domination on the road. Not only do we have a Tour de France winner but he has his supporting rider right alongside him in second on the podium. Six stage victories from four different riders. A World Champion sprinter, rapidly moving up the list of all-time stage winners. Incredible. Team Sky were dominant and a big thankyou has to go out to all the supporting riders who were so strong in the mountains. Australians are naturally downbeat about the misfiring Evans this year but they can be proud of the efforts of Rogers and Porte. The team won their first ever race right here in Adelaide back in 2010 and have gone from strength to strength since then. Onwards to the Olympics. Rule Britannia!
Now its official this needs a bump Tremendous achievement by Wiggins and the Sky team - not to mention the performances of Frome and Cavendish good to see a great British acheivement - heres to hoping they keep it going next Saturday
Pity about the whiff of drugs which won't go away, need more than a bit of shake'n'vac to get rid of the smell of Geert Leinders.... http://www.scotsman.com/scotland-on...candals-that-have-dogged-this-sport-1-2426229
Could hide a stash of drugs in those sideburns of his.. bloody hell looks like that old landlord on Emmerdale, Amos a think his name wor!!
Fantastic achievement. To get a 1st and 2nd from GB is unbelievable, sets us up nice going into the Olympics.
If you have the right doctor you'll go along way- they have cash to burn, yet the doctor thet hire.......strange choice for a team who started out saying they would not allow any whiff of drugs cheats near the team.....
The team is breaking up already, Cavendish wants out. So just like Man City, cant keep all the superstars happy
I don't think Cavendish wants out exactly. He just needs the support on the sprint stages - and once they got their act together in the later stages of the race they got him two stages out of two. Given the Olympics being a priority this year for him (as the only cyclist last time to not medal) he will want assurances that he has the support next year. Given that they looked safer and got into less trouble once they started using the sprint train towards the end of the flat stages they might carry on with that tactic earlier in the race next year - they could also replace Siutsou with another lead out man to give him that extra protection. And also, Brailsford could be convinced to go for the perceived impossible - both yellow and green in the same race!
A true athlete and an excellent example of a true star. Might as well give him Sports Personality Of The Year now. I don't agree with the people saying he should light the Olympic torch though. Sir Steve should be the clear pick.
The problem with SPOTY is that Cavendish and Hoy have both won it in the last 4 years. It might politically be time for a different sport to get the acclaim. Especially if someone gets multiple medals...
You won't find a doctor in cycling who has a totally clean record. By implication a doctor in a team with a rider who's doped is automatically accused, even though they might not have ever known about it (how would they if they never saw them do it?). Sky tried to use guys from outside but they just didn't have the knowledge of how a cyclist reacts to the different conditions. The tour has entered a new age where riders are clean. It means the superhuman abilities to go up mountains at a stupid rate, day in day out, won't be seen. The team will come more into play and the person with the best natural ability to recuperate will be at the front
