Featured in 4 games scored 1 goal and already deemed a failure. When will some people ever learn. Its quite cringeworthy really.Give the lad and the team a chance.

    I fully endorse this.

Everyone clamouring for someone to partner Winnall, but in the only 60 minutes they've both played up front together Wilkinson scored a really good goal and Winnall should have put us 2-0 up.

I'm not going to claim he's looked good outside of that 60 minutes, but he isn't a lone striker, so I think it's extremely unfair for criticism to get so over the top. I'm not enjoying the one up front formation, and if we insist on sticking with it then Wilkinson is a waste of a squad number and loan signing. But if we do opt for playing two up front I'm really happy with a combination of Winnall, Wilkinson and Smith, and believe either combination from the three would be a threat in this league.

There is always a scapegoat for some on here, it's pathetic. This week it's Wilkinson, it was G Smith the week before and thought Watkins might get the award soon, but he has scored tonight so he will be worth 5 million now.

It's not his ability that's in question its his attitude.

What sort of player joins a new club & cant even be bothered to challenge for headers or run around? Where's the lads motivation? His hunger to impress?

Exactly. Each time I've seen him I've left questioning his attitude and desire. He may become a good player and while he's in the team I will support him but there is a question mark over his attitude in my opinion.

Apparently LJ spoke to him and Rothwell to buck their ideas up after Saturday. Not sure how much Wilkinson contributed but Rothwell seemed ok from commentary.

I hope a good old fashioned verbal kick up the arse does the trick.

In such cases I always recant the tale of how a certain Mr Glavin tore up the old third division NOT in his first few games....................

    Yep.

Disagree with the notion that he's some sort of scapegoat, or boo boy. The lad's been woeful so far, folk have said as much. Tis ever the case on a forum.

Yep got to agree ......ive yet to see anything that impresses me with his input...ive previously asked what he brings to the table in another thread..i know im not alone with my thinking due to random folk ive chatted to who all raise the same question......so it cant be a case of making him a scapegoat unless hes kidding us and your billy

I've not been overly impressed so far, but I could easily say the same about Joe Rothwell. It's still very early days in their Barnsley careers, and I'm happy to give them both a chance to prove me wrong. Wilkinson apparently came with a reputation as a bit of a wrong 'en, despite nobody being able to explain what he'd actually done to warrant such reputation. I get the impression this, and the fact that he didn't sign permanently when the opportunity was there, may have shortened some fans patience with him.

He doesn't work particularly hard, and he can't head the ball despite being about 6'4", but I don't think he's being helped by being played as a lone striker. He wasn't all that bad, at Chesterfield, where he played upfront with Winnall.
