Saying if the players were offered new contracts in the summer the majority would have signed long term deals. Seems we have missed the boat AGAIN.

Cryne stated we offered both Hourihane and Winnall new contracts in the summer and they said they wanted to wait a bit.
That is very odd because I am certain that Patrick cryne stated that Hourihane had refused an attempt to offer him a new contract in the summer Here is a quote from Conor in the summer: 'I have 12 months left on my contract with Barnsley so I have a decision to make – will I sign a new contract or will I play away for the next season and wait to become a free agent next year? It’s something I have to weigh up,’
to be fair the article states the majority would have signed, no names specifically including himself
Hindsight is a marvellous thing. No one knew at the beginning of the season whether any of the players could hack it in the Championship. I for one wrote on here at that time that I thought players such as Hourahane, Hammill and Winnall could struggle for pace in this league.
'I think if the club had come to us in the summer, before the Championship started, a lot of us probably would have signed a contract. But they didn't. I would have signed a long-term contract last summer but nothing was on the table.'
I beg to differ their previous records at that point would would still make a long term offer worthwhile.
Well conor said in the summer that HE had a decision to make whether to sign an extension or not. You know what I think happened? I think that the club informally approached him and winnall and suggested a contract extension but both said they didn't want to so no formal offer was made meaning that technically he isn't lying now because if a huge offer had been made to him even after he said he didn't want one then yes maybe he would have signed. PC: eyup Conor lad, shall we sit down and sign a new contract? CH: no I want to see my contract out and then I'll consider my options as a free agent. PC: oh ok, are you sure this won't change your mind? *Slides contract with £300k per week on it across the table* CH: have you got a pen I could borrow?
Seems a bit odd given Cryne said they didn't want to sign in the summer, but we'll just have to see. I'm still fairly confident that they'll sign in the summer like Hammill did, but it all depends on how we do in the rest of the season
I expect some will sign out of bree, marley, scowern, winnall and Connor some will go I'd be happy with 3 out of those 5 sign back up
Until the last couple of years we only ever offered half year and 1 season contracts. Which is why we struggled having to replace the entire squad very year. Recently we have been handing 2 3 and 4 year deals. Conor and winall weren't they both 3 years.... as such it's now that we are promoted and they have 1 year left giving us the headache we have now. But both were approached int the summer.
Conor has chosen to run his contract down and see what summer brings. Nothing the Club can do about it. Whatever we offer, there are clubs out there who can smash it. For him to commit to a new contract at this stage would be daft. I can't fault him. I don't think he'll go anywhere in January, but I definitely think he'll leave in the summer (I don't think we'll get promoted, and I think that's the only thing that could keep him). I personally don't think the Club or Conor have done anything wrong here. It just is what it is.
Agree with all of this. I would love for Conor and Sammy to sign contracts and for us to get large transfer fees but I don't feel like they owe us anything. We signed them for super cheap and they have both given their all in both effort and performance levels since they signed. I'll watch keep track of their careers with great interest, particularly Hourihane who I think has the potential to become a decent premier league regular.
Possibly we wouldn't do as well, but even if they do leave they are not irreplaceable by any means. There is no doubt another Conor or another Sam in Leagues 1 & 2. They may already be at the club, perhaps Bradshaw or Moncur. However I firmly believe that we are already thoroughly prepared for their departure and we have almost certainly got replacements lined up already. So don't be so pessimistic; one or two on here thought the departure of Mawson would cost us, who would've thought a defender from Torquay has proved to be an adequate replacement
