I have seen this one on the Ebuyer website http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/123447/rb/0and thought it looked a great deal. I have noticed though that it is still XP and not Vista. If I were to buy a PC now, should I really be getting one with Vista?

Any other deals knocking about thats better than this? Cheers!

I don't know much about PCs really mate, but I reckon you should get the most up to date version of windows, because you know how crap the microsoft updates/upgrades can be... :)S)

That look's like a decent deal - especially with the monitor...

I've never used Vista so I couldn't compare it to XP although if it ain't broke, don't fix it - I'd still be using Windows 2000 if I'd not bought a new PC last year!

    It looks a good buy

However, there are a couple of things you should know.
I advised a friend to buy an Acer PC because I could scarcely build one for the same money.
However, there was a fault with it which should have been repaired under warranty. Unfortunately neither eBuyer nor Acer want to know you from an aftersales viewpoint. I ended up tearing the warranty seal and fixing it myself.

Also, the graphics capability of that machine is only OK. It is perfectly adequate for normal household use but don't expect good gaming performance. These small form factor PC's are a bit tricky to upgrade so it needs to fulfil your needs for the forseeable future "as is".

If it's not for games it'll be fine and it will play games, just not very smoothly or at very high resolution.

As for the Vista/XP debate, yes Vista is the way forward but it is not without teething troubles and some of the copyright management "features" hog lost of resources. I like XP for now but that machine is Vista capable and a Vista Home Premium upgrade would only cost £65 if you wish to do so at a later date.

I've not had trouble in the past, and nobody else I know has - have you had a bad experience mate?

    Cheers Revvie - very informative.....

The only game I really play is Football Manager, my Playstation 3 and Wii do the games otherwise. Other than that - google earth is my limit as far as graphics goes.

What do you mean though about "later date" for Vista? Meaning I could buy Vista from them for £65 anytime after the date of purchase? 12 months down the line I could get Vista for £65?

    Have you considered

Buying a Mac with dual Pentium you can run Mac OS and Widows on the same. The Imac is complete and very compact. I run XP Proffesional on mine which I bought an OEM version. Perhaps thats why I keep getting invitations from Microsoft they think I'm a computer manufacturer. :D

I would want the RAM doubled too, a new decent graphics card is gonna take around £150 from you and the extra ram around £60 ish

You can pick memory up pretty cheap - crucial memory is very good

Graphics cards are so expensive - I'm not a big fan of gaming on a Pc to be honest - much prefer my 360 for games and my old gamecube for RE 4 , metroid and mario kart
