We have brought in 2 more strikers
With Bogga we now have competition for the Macken role
But regarding the nippy centre forward we have only got one at the club and thats Mifsud
What happens if Mifsud gets injured or suspended ???
We could have done with Mifsud AND Ward

We need competition in all positions in the team...........but we still haven't acheived this with the strikers we have got.
And this is after 3 seasons in this division
    It still needs sorting out.

Which is a crying shame because the rest of the team is basically sound and I think some money spent on quality strikers would have seen us in the top 10 maybe top 6 this season

    suprisingly

you seem to forget that they did do something about the striker situation in the summer, they spent £1.2m on a striker who 10 minutes into the season had his head caved in by a dee daa thug

    I agree with nudger here

Buying just one striker in the summer was madness considering that we released christensen at the same time. It's also interesting how over a third of the season becomes '10 minutes'.

Davey failed to sort out the striker problem in the summer and it very nearly cost him his job yet again. We're still fannying about around the relegation places for the third season in a row as a direct result of this as well

Eh........... not with ya on that one!

    My mid-season summary.
Goal return from our forwards simply isn't good enough. Rigters has failed to impress and hold down first team place, as has/did Mostto, KO is working harder but lacks ability, Coulson & Hume's seasons cut short due to injury, finally Macken has struggled with goals this season as he has been asked to play unfamilar role as a target man.

SD has added two further strikers, both experienced, both internationals, both have reputation for scoring goals and even better both have experience playing together for their country Malta. SD has also signed Adam Hammill a young winger from Liverpool FC with growing reputation to give balance to left side of midfield and provide service for forwards. He has also added stability to midfield with the addition of Andranik from Fulham.

You have to agree that the squad has been greatly improved by these additions. The two strikers who have both impressed so far, hardworking, decent first touch now just waiting for the goals to come (Bogdanovic has only played 2games, he scored one and hit cross bar on his debut, and also set up JCR for his goal on Tues night.
The only problem I can see is lack of pressence i.e. big targetman. Mifsud and Bogdanovic are both goalscorers and although Macken has done ok in this role he's not got the physical presence (as Ferenczi did).

Conclusion: We wtill need big lad upfront! bring back Stan! pack Rigters backs and send him back to blackburn, and allow KO to go out on loan........ to Rotherham/Scunny/Hartlepool or who ever will take him!

    Easy, job done!

    10 minutes as in...

I couldn't be arsed to work out how many games he played before the injury.

My guess is that they thought that Macken would continue last seasons form into this season (which he clearly hasn't), Ritgers came highly rated (but has been a massive flop), Mostto would come back from Peru refreshed and hopefully a little happier (but didn't), and Oddjob would occasionally rise to a similar level to the game he had against chelsea (but hasn't) and finally Coulson would come back from injury (which he did for about "10 minutes")

Maybe the psychics on here would say that all this should have been forseen (but it wasn't)

Not sure you had to be psychic to have serious reservations about whether Odejayi and Mostto were up to the task.

In a nut shell.........you cannot start a season with........

Odejayi.........well he didn't do anything last season but he might come good
Mostto...........well he didn't do anything last season but he might come good
Coulson.........well we don't really know if this player can cope in the championship because he hasn't played many matches
Rigters..........in the reserves at Blackburn and comes with a good reputation but dont know whether he will cope in the championship
Macken.........this guy did well for us last season and he should be good this season
Hume............Leicester were relegated but this guy has proven he can play in the championship

Thats FOUR maybes and TWO proven.............how can a Championship side start the season like this ???

Hence our position in the league

SD has just gambled on another maybe by bringing Bogga in - this one is looking like it might work
Ward would have been another risk
So at the start of next season we need 4 or 5 strikers in the Macken, Hume, Mifsud proven championship mold

    Agreed.....

But with just four new faces in the door we have a very different and much stronger squad than the one that started this season...... Sd made a big mistake was letting Stan go, or at least not replacing him....... also keeping faith with KO when he is clearly not good enough at this level. As for Rigamortis and Mostto failed to live up to reputations....

Money doesn't grow on trees................BUT...........and this is the crux of the matter

You can build a resonable team by scouting round for bargins...........SD is an expert at this
    BUT
When it comes to the strikeforce thats a different matter.
You maybe lucky in picking up a gem cheaply..........but with strikers you usually get what you pay for.

So yes, by all means take a chance on strikers like Ward and Bogga but there ALWAYS needs to be championship proven strikers there and enough of them to see us through a season.

And we haven't had that since we came up from the 1st division and that is why we struggle every season, even though we have quality players in other areas of the side such as Muller, JCR, De Silva, Colace, Foster etc etc etc
