BARNSLEY Football Club held another positive meeting with homegrown defender Antony Kay and are confident the 23-year-old will commit his long-term future to Oakwell.

Antony, who recently celebrated the birth of his second daughter, is out of contract at the end of the month but held more talks with the Club yesterday.

Neil Austin's agent has also been in contact and further discussions are planned.

    RE: why not?

Kay and austin are presumably asking for money, but they only got in touch over the last couple of days. Whats to say reid's agent didnt go back for more money, but they had more time to negotiate a couple of weeks ago. I also presume that the club has a maximum wage that they will pay, so they can ask for more all they want. The club will only go so far.

Besides, word on da street, is that some contracts guarantee that certain players wages will automatically match the highest paid player at the club. So if one of the out of contracts or a new player is offered more, he doesnt even need to ask, he will automatically get the same. Which is fine, because I am pretty sure the chairman wont break the wage structure he has set.
