Someone has put a slant on an interview by saying things that haven't even been said and the board goes into its normal attack the club at all costs.Luke Steele for example as over 12 months of his current deal to run why the demand that he signs another deal straight away. For all we know the club might have said Luke we'll draw your contract up in January .The player can then concentrate on his playing career knowing his future is sorted. Now I know this theory might be rubbished but is it any less feasible than other comments put forward already.
Where's the slant? delaying offering a contract until a few months into the season, we all know what will happen. The interview is posted from the chron website further down the page.
Surely if he signs a new contract over the summer, then he can focus on playing rather than being distracted mid-season?
My point is behind the scenes the player and club might have already started dialogue and certain assurances given.Only last week Steele said how happy he was at Barnsley and would stay as long as they" want me."
Get him signed then he can't get out of it, players can say what they want. Nothing is certain until it's signed.
How many times have we seen players leave with 6 months left on their contacts for £500k. Get him on a 3 year deal now.
Because if he hasn't signed one by January he only has six months left and we get bugger all for him.
And what does sort of impression, does what they have said, make on a player? They might as well have come out and say 'we want to make sure you are not crocked from that stomach injury'.
No agreement without a contract. If they are in agreement why wait 6 months? He could easily get much bigger wages offer from elsewhere in that time.
Doesn't really matter what he WANTS - it's what is best for the club and that is to protect itself from getting sod all for him. Once he leaves the club his career prospects are irrelevant. Harsh but true.
There are plenty of clubs where he would be no1 and would pay more than us. Anyway this is the club not offering a contract that is the problem. Maybe Steele actually wants one and he might be disappointed in not getting an offer? Who knows, but we should be offering one. He is one of our more valuable assets.
