The chant would have been terrible had it got off the ground, and this whole storm would be justified. As it happens, one idiot got one line into a song and was booed by everyone around him, and immediately ceased. It seems that Barnsley fans are getting a lot of grief for an incident when in fact they should be receiving nothing but praise for how it was put down.
If your saying it's been confirmed that 'one idiot' said this, do you know where about this was. Row / Seat number etc.. Could do with this excuse of a human being banned from Oakwell. Someone mentioned that it was reported to stewards, surly if it happened, someone knows who this was.
Can't pin in down, other than he was sat at the extreme right of the stand as you look at the pitch, and probably was towards the back, i.e. rows T, U, V or somewhere around there. I can't be more exact than that. To collar the get would require someone sat much nearer to state the seat details.
I was on Row U seat 962 with a 15 others (948-964 ish). First we heard about it, was when someone saw it on Facebook on the way home. Extreme right would be about seats 1200+
But as mentioned earlier you didn't hear the comments yourself, Your going off the say so of someone else. So is it wise to make such a post
Not really a storm now, a lot of forums are saying its just a lot of stirring up by rival fans and children on facebook, even the blunts mad site is sticking up for us.
To make a second hand comment about something a friend supposedly hears is no better than the people posting on twitter and facebook etc and just helps fan the flames. Theres a thread on leeds united waccoe site and most fans say they dont believe it
Don't be daft. I know what went on, I just didn't hear it at the time straight away, it was pointed out to me. I heard the response and was told what the line was. This has then since been confirmed by others as true reflection of events. It's time some flames were fanned in defence of reds fans rather that the inflammatory reporting of one idiot persons actions
It's now going viral as far as the Press are concerned. Not just the Mail running with it. Don's retraction is now the story. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/doncaster-rovers/8989207/Barnsley-fan-accused-of-sick-chant-about-Doncaster-Rovers-striker-Billy-Sharps-tragic-son.html http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/jan/03/barnsley-twitter-fans-billy-sharp
