Oakwell is too big for us at the moment, and having so many gaps in the crowd is having a negative effect on the atmosphere which has been non-existent for several years. It probably couldn't be done this year due to season ticket sales but how about closing the upper tiers on both the west and east stand for most games? This will give the impression of the place being fuller, everyone will be sat closer together and this would surely help increase the noise levels and improve the general atmosphere. I realise this isn't a fool proof idea, there will be people who have sat in the East upper for 20 years and the West even longer who may decide they don't want to sit elsewhere and to be fair I know the East upper provides a cracking view. Obviously where there is going to be demand (local derbies and maybe a good cup draw) the stands could be opened up fully. The club would surely also save money in the case of the East by effectively moth-balling the top tier. Just a thought...
I think we should close the West Stand to home supporters with home fans in the Ponty & East Stand only. Move the away fans into the West Stand (would be more cost effective for small away followings than giving them the North Stand), close to the Ponty and that should hopefully get the atmosphere going. Obviously for the local derbies and 'big' matches, we can give away fans the North and our fans the West.
I've got an even more controversial idea. Play a bit of decent football and sign some players actually worth getting behind.
Go on then, I have two genuine questions: 1: Which players do you have in mind 2: Where is the money coming from.
