Got my chores done this morning and settled down with a bottle of Sancerre for an afternoon of listening to the cricket with half an eye on the footie. 2 glasses in, the cricket is making me nervous and the footie is probably dead as a spectacle. Wondering if it's too late to down a strong coffee and get back out into the garden to do some weeding.

Modern players cannot defend - they want flat tracks otherwise their technique is found wanting time and time again

Unless England can give the Aussies about 230 as a minimum I think we will need a rain dance to stop the Aussies winning.

Pietersen being more defensive than Trott is taking some getting used to.

It would help if the England management hadn't instructed Root not to play his natural game. He's no Boycott. He need to play his normal game and attack.

I love passages of play like this. You can keep your big-hitting T20 stuff, sessions like this that potentially win a series by gradually shifting the balance of power are so engrossing.
