Got a pork joint that says this on the packaging. Weught:1.68kg Total roasting time 142mins Preheat oven to 220° - place joint in a roasting tin and cook for 30 minutes per 500g plus an additional 30minutes. Place on the middle shelf and cook for 40 minutes. Reduce heat to 180° and cook for remaining time. So the entire first sentence is unnecessary then?
Used to watch Fanny Craddock when I was young and can remember her hubby johnny stood beside her throughout the show silently drinking the cooking wine until the end of the show he used to say I hope all your puddings turn out like Fanny's Mine certainly did
Makes sense to me. 1680g/500g x 30 minutes + 30 minutes = 130 minutes 40 minutes at 220 and 90 minutes at 180.
I once baked a joint which had the instructions "Bake for 90 minutes at 150 degrees" It tasted great, but I melted my protractor.
It's the first sentence that confused me. I generally read instructions in order and figured that it wanted me to cook it for about 100 minutes at 220 THEN 40 minutes on the middle shelf and then the rest (that don't exist) at 180. Knew it couldn't be right but they just seemed weirdly written
