Didn't know they existed until I started my VHS/DVD transfer programme. Bugger!

Is there any (preferably easy) way to get round this?

Are you talking about Macrovision protection

where the picture flashes dark and light when you try to copy it? I have a box somewhere that corrects that.

    Don't think so

I'm playing the tapes through a DVD recorder, either directly to DVD or onto the hard drive of the playerto write to DVD later.

As soon as I set up and ask it to copy, the film stops after a couple of frames and a box saying "Copy protected DVD = unable to copy" flashes onto the screen, before it all stops.

    RE: Don't think so

I've been having the same problem with some VHS tapes I've been trying to archive to DVD. Worst culprits are the Disney ones. Only Fools & Horses did the same on just half a dozen of the episodes, but I managed to record the awkward ones off UK Gold. There is a device you can buy that sits scarted between the VCR and DVD Recorder (about £40) which removes it, but if you have a DVD/HDD/VHS Combi I don't think it works.

    That's the device I think I've got

Not that I've used it much. A bit redundant really.
