Colgan rallies Reds for the final showdown BARNSLEY keeper Nick Colgan will warn teammates ahead of the play-off showdown with Swansea City: 'Don't bother showing up if you don't believe we'll be promoted.' Colgan, aged 32, is one of the squad's senior players and has big game experience. "I've been quite fortunate to be involved in two Scottish Cup finals but I lost them both and it's not a good day out. You don't enjoy it unless you win it." he said. "We'll be doing our utmost to do that. It's a big build-up to a big game. The fall-out and the aftermath is not great when you lose in the final. People say it's great to be there, it's a great occasion. Yes, it is but really it's only a great occasion if you win." Colgan has been at 12 different clubs and been a regular in the Republic of Ireland squad but he has yet to experience a promotion. "As long as we win the final this achievement would rank up there very highly in terms of my career," he added. Barnsley have never played at the Millennium Stadium and Colgan will also be making his debut there. "We'll prepare well and go there in great spirits and we know that on the day if we can keep our heads and play good football, we can be in the Championship. "I think the lads know that it can only be a great day if we win. We have a very, very young squad but I'm sure the manager with his experience and his assistant Rick Holden will be stressing that to the boys. We're not going there to just make up the numbers, there's no point in going if you don't believe you can win it. We'll be looking forward to it." Swansea finished below Barnsley in the final League One table with one point less. Swansea defeated Barnsley 3-1 in Wales in August. The return at Oakwell finished 2-2 . Said Colgan: "We've had two very hard games against Swansea and we know it's going to be tough but hopefully on a nice pitch at the Millennium Stadium our more technical players can get on the ball and we can play well."
he's a good point there the pitch at the millennium, i'm guessing, will be first rate, so we will be able to play football and go at them. that said, swansea are quite a nice footballing side, should be a good game. we'll win though. obviously.
Its great to see the players rallying us on as much as possible it shows how much they want it as well as the fans!
