I cant understand after watching today why on every corner we defend we bring every player back into the box. Nobody was left up. This is crazy as when we clear the ball it obviously goes to their players. We dont even leave small daggers on the half way to create pressure.
Should leave one up pulling at least two defenders back as a result or as you say 100% coming back at you
Funnyfella, totally agree. I was just shocked to see it happen every corner. Tomfun, did you learn the basics at school about playing football, We all know we won but adopting this tactic wont be great
Exactly we dont and today we didnt play with much tempo. It was great to win, and Hull were crap second half and deserved to lose, but Mcshane who played for a Hull who got MOM was loads better than our defenders. If we had mcshane im not sure we would be in this position.
Simon Davey had the best tactic for corners by leaving 3 up. Makes them fetch 4 back. Comments from other managers at the time thought it impressive. But were not allowed to say anything positive about Simon are we....
Leaving three up to pull four out was counter productive. For the same reason that filling the box tends to work. The less players on the box, the more space to run into, the more likely you'll get a free header. Filling the box with players means an attacker will rarely get a free header - as long as everyone knows what they're doing which I accept at times out lot haven't. If it was as simple as you lot make out then everybody would leave two or three up.
Leaving everyone back has worked wonders hasn't it. Wasn't it 4 games on the trot recently we conceded from corners?
my point is that leaving two or three up wont stop us conceding direct from corners - if owt we'd concede more. Knowing how to defend is a prerequisite though. I think that's improving, amazing what a change in personnel can do
