I have just seen Soucek's goal from last night. The amount of blocking and holding off the ball was more like American Football. Is such holding allowed when the ball is in play? I know it would be difficult to apportion blame but as the defenders are trying to impede the attackers, surely it should be a free kick to the defence?

They just allow it now for some reason - it's bizarre. Anywhere else on the pitch and its obstruction. Its up there with shielding the ball out for a corner.

It's also the main reason why Arsenal have done so well in the last 2 or 3 years - their set piece coaches take advantage of these "rules" and they're so far in front of most other clubs.

They should just start giving fouls or pens at every goal kick until players stop shirt pulling grappling etc

It's coached into them, youth team matches are the same. Give penalties for it, even if it means 5 or 6 penalties a game, it'll soon stop.
