Can we just let them have a goal kick in future, it'll save us getting our hopes up only to see the ball being cleared by the first defender.

Its a major problem for BFC, looks like we dont practice set pieces. Our delivery is poor and when it does get past the 1st defender how many times do we cause panic? Not very often. Certainly not as often as it happens at the other end. Need to get McCann taking them to start with.

Only decent corner we put in on Saturday was by Reid and then that was in the last minute of stoppage time. That was one out of 8/9, clearly not anywhere near good enough and our free kicks are just as unproductive. As we're creating hardly anything from open play we've got to be able to take advantage of set pieces, unfortunately at the moment we look incapable of doing this.

what worries me is that we seem to have a different player staying back, taking the corner, going short etc every time we get a corner. Is it just a case of whoever happens to be closer does the job?

I can't understand why we aren't, or at least don't seem to be, well drilled at them. They're one of the few times we get to have a chance at goal and more times than not we're incapable of putting in a decent delivery.

and throw ins-it drives me mad...........

we get a throw in and invariably dither about a bit and then throw it to the opposition-surely set pieces are the one thing they can practice and practice and practice??

I don't know why the opposition don't stick one on the front post and send eveyone else upfield

the only time we clear the front man is when its put completely over the top and ends up nearly hitting the opposite corner flag

How difficult is it for a pro footballer??

To whip a ball in at speed? I've played womens football & it's a bit more difficult to get the power & distance, so most corners are "Floated in" but we're talking pro footballers!! What do they do in training? Failing to beat the first defender is pathetic. For me they should have "set plays" like they do in American football. i.e. Corner no 1 is whipped in at speed; ,corner no 2 is where everyone starts outside the box & charges in. etc etc. From what I've seen it's just a case of everyone jostle about inside the box. Same with free kicks. I'd also have a player "doing a Gerrard" at every possible opportunity. Our players don't make enough of the manhandling in the box. You can keep your coaching manual - we need to get a bit more streewise ... the lack of pens this season is evidence enough.

We have 3 set plays from corners & have had for a while

The numbering may be wrong but I reckon it's as follows:-

#1 Aim for the defender at the near post.
#2 Aim for someone about 8' tall at the back post.
#3 Get someone to come short, losing any advantage we may have from any extra height in the box & then make a total balls up of it.

i was thinking that on saturday

how hard is it to have set plays where everyone knows is what is going to happen??

rotate them round them each week to keep the opposition guessing

if the lug heads at rugby union can figure it out for throw ins andscrums, why can't footballers???

You are probably right - I'm giving them too much credit for coming up with 4 variations.

I can accept set plays not coming off but...

TO not get the ball in the intended area is v poor.
Don't get me started on free kicks ... I know... I'll try to curl it over the wall from 30 yards - wheres the shock in that??

It's something that's amazed me for years

How bad most professional footballers are at taking corners. Bear in mind the ones that take them are supposed to be the best at the club too...

I'm useless at football, completely rubbish, but I reckon I take better corners than the majority of professional players - no kidding. I wouldn't win on aynthing else, but accurate pacy corners I'd fancy myself against many pros.

its not as if they don't have time to practice is it???

after all theres no 12 hour days darn't pit or in't mill to rush off to after training,is there?.

If it was a penalty they had to take (I bet they all practise them) they'd be queueing up to take it
