A recent game at Oakwell v Derby saw a stoppage of around 10 mins when Lucas was concussed. Add on the standard 'bits and peices' for other stoppages and there was a reasonable expectation that between 12 and 15 minutes injury time should be played. Hey, guess what - Big Club Derby - gunning for promotion - 2-0 up and not totally sure of winning the game...so what's the ref do - he awards 7 measly minutes of injury time and then only plays six of them after BFC get a goal back and a way back into the game. 'Big Club' Leeds - on the brink of being relegated. As far as I know no significant stoppages of the Lucas type...........guess what, 6 - Yes 6 - minutes given by the ref to give them as much opportunity as possible to win the game. Leeds fans invade the pitch and despite a massive risk of causing a riot the ref still insists on letting Leeds eventually play another minute rather than abandon the game. The **** of this weekend has put a little bit of a downer on what should have been unbridled joy. Who is most likely to prosper long term? BFC or clubs like Derbv and Leeds against such a backdrop?
