Not the biscuit variety (neer) . I am running ant-spyware check and it has highlighted many cookies described as medium risk. Is it ok to ignore these? TIA
The resulting report says... Tracking cookies are not as real malicious software like Trojans or keyloggers, but the intention of the cookies is to track your movement as you surf between websites. Think I'll leave them be. Cheers.
they store little bits of information about what you're doing online, it's fine to delete them, in fact internet explorer (and firefox) as a button you can press to clear them. All they do is store things to speed up your internet experience for example a cookie can remember your username and password for this site so when you come back you're automatically logged on. Sometimes cookies will watch what sites you are using to gather information about what you're doing which can then be used for advertising etc so it's perfectly fine to delete them.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie It's safe to delete them, it's information stored on your pc for when you visit a website - for example, you might set this site up to "remember you", so you don't have to log on all the time....that will be stored as a cookie. Delete it and you'll have to sign on, but could then select again to remember you and it will create a new cookie.
Of course if you delete all your cookies you need to remember your passwords for sites This one for example stores your login information and preferences in cookies so usually you are logged on automatically when you connect. Deleting cookies will mean you have to log on all by yourself. Same for lots of other sites Best rule of thumb for cookies though - if in doubt delete it
