Coulson didn't know "which part of his body the ball came off"

  1. .......when he bundled in the equaliser. Did he get a touch at all? I watched it frame by frame last weekend and it looked like the ball came down from the keeper's initial parry and Coulson swung his arm to try to force it over the line with his hand. He missed it and it seemed to fall behind him where the keeper's boot made a connection and in it went. Anyone else see it that way? I seem to remember the Southend manager complaining that he had actually handled it so it should have been disallowed. The intent was certainly there. Referees, eh!! Good miss, whoever you were.

yeah, after i watched it back that's what I thought as well. the intent to get the ball in the back of the net by whatever means...hand, head, foot etc was definatley there, but to me it looked like it was an own goal by the keeper. he seemed to get the last touch! quite alot of the lads down oakwell seem to think he handballed it tho. Coulson has become an overnite hero down there!! I don't care how we scored anyway, the main thing is we did and we got the replay!

Saw it same way with frame by frame

    Good spot from the ref.

As yet I don't think "intent to handball without actually making contact with the ball" is an offence!

    thing is

it's not very likely that he's going to say "OK I admit it I didn't get a touch it was an own goal" is he?-first senior goal for the club according to the record books-unless it goes before the disputed goals panel-and I can't see us invoking it-and neither will Southend in case it goes down as an own goal !!

  6. Agree Paul, any striker will claim ANYTHING. Doesn't matter how many deflections it got or even if he actually struck the ball at all. Goalkeeper will certainly NOT want it against him so good luck to Coulson and one up to him - first of many more hopefully. Just a shame it was so messy. Maybe the camera didn't pick up that as the keeper hooked it in with his trailing foot it brushed the back of the striker's leg before trickling in. Doesn't matter in the end though, but I was just surprised that nobody else commented on it (unless I missed it)
