Re: would be happy if one or two in our league went there too Boro just announced losses of £10 million. Have their parachute payments now stopped? Wonder what would happen to em if Gibson walked away. Also would same happen to Wolves if they went down to league 1?
Re: would be happy if one or two in our league went there too Just shows how well our club is run in my opinion.
Re: would be happy if one or two in our league went there too It also shows that the premier league is a poisoned chalice.
Re: would be happy if one or two in our league went there too It doesn't have to be. Nobody to blame but the clubs themselves.
be a shame, the running the club is a shambles, and though we never ever get owt v's them, i like them. met quite a few of their fans, very friendly and take you under their wing, ushering us on the buses, drivers waving us on for free cos they beat us. though out of the way, ricoh is the best i've been to
The truth is football was seen as toxic until euro 96 we had a new labour government in 97 & we had a few good players like gazza loads of money was pumped in, with really very few rewards in european & national terms it needs a rethink, but is anyone powerful enough to stand up to sky?
I would say it was the 1990 WC when football started becoming glamorous. The PL era was well under way by 96.
Re: would be happy if one or two in our league went there too Unfortunately you need to spend to compete. Player wages are from memory three times higher on average than in the championship.
nothing to do with $ky, they saw an opening in the market and took it. beeb/itv still make a balls up of live tv! only uefa/fifa can do anything, we (europe) are blessed with the best footballers ever, nothing to do with labour or any party unless an individual don't like the tax laws. same as everywhere ,rich get richer and poorer go bust trying to keep up
Re: would be happy if one or two in our league went there too You do need to spend, but don't have to overspend. WBA have shown it is possible to yoyo, then settle, in the PL without overspending. You need to go in with the attitude of we might go down, but if we do we have a great chance of coming back stronger. If players wages are 3 times higher then it should be affordable without risking the clubs future as the revenues are more than 3 times.
Re: would be happy if one or two in our league went there too West brom are a good example to use. However, this huge wedge of cash clubs get, I wonder how much is swallowed up clearing outstanding liabilities and money loaned from dodgy owners?
Couldn't disagree more - of all the new stadia I hate the Ricoh the most - utter corporate palace - on the one occasion I went I felt like I was out of place because I didn't have a suit on. Also never understood why on earth it was built - Highfield Road was more than adequate to service their needs.
