anyone live in or around the Coventry area? I'm considering relocating with the company and would like a bit of info on the surrounding area; places to look at, avoid etc Any help would be appreciated cheers i
Lucky you South side (Earlsdon/Canley) is generally thought to be better. North side tends to be full of .. erm erm ... difficult to say without getting the PC brigade out (you shoudl be able to guess). Plenty of nice towns like Leamington just outside but more expensive and a bit disconnected. PM me if you want more info.
Was born there - went to school there and now live about 30 miles away -why do I support Barnsley? PM me if you need to know anything specific.
Leamington/ Kenilworth Coventry not so great, but like all places has it's better areas. Generally the North side of the city centre - Foleshill, Walsgrave etc are rough. to the South & West there are nicer areas. If I were you I'd be looking at Kenilworth (about 5 miles), Balsall Common , Meriden and Leamington Spa all around 8 miles. Leamington one train stop away. Stoneleigh is v nice but rural and not many properties become available. Lived down there for around 8 years - around ten years ago - so things may have changed.
Not the best bit - but not the worst either. South/East of city centre. Some good places fairly close.
RE: Why do you support Barnsley? It's a long story that I haven't really got time to tell now. Another day perhaps?
My In laws are from Whitley and the Mrs went to Whitley school. The best thing about it is, you can get out of it quick. I dont sleep easy around there I had the car broken into for a packet of biscuits. But then I am used to no crime living out here in the sticks
Why do you support Barnsley then? Is today ok to tell the story? got me interested when i read the other post
RE: Why do you support Barnsley then? OK, briefly. Used to work with someone, in Birmingham who came from Barnsley. He was interested in Greyhound racing and got me interested in it (during the 70s). We used to own dogs together. Used to "go to the dogs" every Sat night - Hall Green. B'ham. There used to be talk about the afternoon's football and he used to talk about how his team - Barnsley had done. From there I just used to listen to what he said and generally got interested. Used to watch out for the results so that i could discuss it with him. Gradually then got to know the players, read reports, etc and they simply became "my" team. First time I ever saw them was at Wolves in early 80s and soon after went to Oakwell to see them there. Then just took off and spent most of the 80s travelling round country to see them. Missed a patch in 90s when we had kids but now we all go as a family and have not missed a game home or away for 3 seasons. Just a major part if life. Mind you we did over 10000 miles last season going to games! There. End of story!
RE: Why do you support Barnsley then? You are my favourite Barnsley fan.
Can't believe the travelling you and the family Warks do following a team that's 15 minutes walk from my gaff.
Respect all round.

Boo! You should support your local team! Must have got some stick though over the years and without the "well they are my home town club" bit to fall back on!
