Will football be suspended if the number of cases confirmed COVID-19 increase in the UK. They have already abandoned the Irish v Italy match in the six nations? Many events that attract large crowds have already been abandoned.
Definitely, maybe, possibly, it’s an option, I doubt it! http://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/salvation-is-here.289142/
It's becoming a real possibility. Switzerland have already banned any event attracting a crowd in excess of 1,000 people. Could happen here soon. The Geneva motor show, one of the biggest events in the motoring calendar, has been canned.
I've been training for the London marathon for the last few months and I just know it is going to be canned.
If it becomes widespread, which is a possibility, then going to the football might be the least of our issues.
There’s no logical reason to cancel a marathon surely? They are saying best protection against it is for personal hygiene towards washing hands etc. I can understand a stadium based being at risk though. I tried to get in this year, to no avail, good luck on the day(if on).
Quite a few reasons unfortunately. People travelling to it from all over the world, the large crowds before the race begins, the crowds watching, the expo event in the days before that runners have to go to, shared aid stations and toilets along the route etc. If it's not contained by then it would be a huge risk. I'm supposed to be running the Paris marathon in 5 weeks but I can't see that happening either.
Yes and what's worse, we'll have to bring in Chinese contractors in to build us a few 1000 bed hospitals in ten days. But don't panic Capt. Mainwaring.
Zombieism has a 100% infection rate in those... Currently reported around 85,000 known cases. Of which 2% have died. Obviously it’s horrible that any die. But if we just use the population of Wuhan the total population (11million). You would have a 1 in around 130 chance of catching the disease. And 1 out of 13,000 of dying.. Don’t forget as well that some of the deaths will have some underlying health problems. Now I’m not saying it’s not a worry, but I am saying the current news hysteria does seem to imply we’re not getting the full story. Or there’s nothing better to get the public whipped up about. Or there are things that need to be brushed under the carpet...
Surely domestically the first step would be to just try to stop away fans travelling,? If you stop locals converging where would it stop, supermarkets, large places of work?
As said above cancelling football matches isnt the greatest of my worries - but if it comes to it the sensible option is to do what they are doing in Italy and play them behind closed doors and stream them using iFollow or Sky/BT TV. But we aren't there yet - so far a total of 20 known cases in the UK - only one of which may have been passed on here. Its a cause for concern and may have significant impact on our lives shortly
I meant the fact they won’t be touching anything someone else has (unless their holding hands) whilst physically running
If it gets even a very small foothold in the country football matches will be one of the first things to go. Allowing tens of thousands of people, quite a few of whom will have travelled a fair distance, to congregate in one small place would be stupid. Given that the worldwide infection rate is still on an upward exponential curve I would be very surprised if the football season is unaffected. Similarly the Euros are probably in danger unless it has burned itself out by then.
It’s going to be with us more or less until they develop a cure now I think. Even then if it has different stains I expect it’ll never go away fully and return in winter like the flu.
