Of course, I forgot how promotion should be determined purely on how you do against 3 sides! A bit like QPR in 1997 when they were saying they should have gone up as they beat us 3 times!
The USA drew with Italy so they should have a share of the World Cup as well!
Didn't Barcelona lose to Getafe last season so shouldn't they have the European Cup?

i'd rather he responded like that than graciously

what a bitter class A nob.

Doncaster 0 Hartlepool 1
Swindon 2 Doncaster 1

maybe they should have got relegated on that basis?

Very similar to Mark 'Cheer Up' McGhee's comments.

Seem to remember Wolves being "far better equipped" for the Prem than us. What a crying shame they never got to find out.....

John Ryan Interview Which Is Rather Funny....

Championship aim for Ryan
Exclusive
Ian Appleyard
DONCASTER Rovers chairman John Ryan firmly expects his club to win promotion to the Championship after pushing the boat out on wages this summer.
Millionaire Ryan has funded the signing of five new players including former Sheffield United striker Bruce Dyer, Wales left-back Gareth Roberts and Northern Ireland midfielder Kevin Horlock.
Although Michael McIndoe and Neil Roberts have been off-loaded to balance the scales, the wage bill has risen by a massive 30 per cent to break the £3m barrier for the first time in the club's history.
The high stakes mean there is inevitably added pressure on manager Dave Penney to reach the Championship after the club's failure to qualify for the play-offs in the last two seasons.
Ryan said: "It's all about wages at this level. We are paying wages for Championship players and that's why we have got the quality in that we have.
"I fully expect to get promotion this season – but I know it's not going to be easy. There are probably a dozen teams who 'could' get promoted. Nottingham Forest are the big guns and, to a lesser extent Bristol City, but of the smaller clubs, we are the most fancied. Quite rightly, the bookmakers are looking at us as third favourites."
A number of players joined Rovers from Championship clubs towards the end of last season including Hull City's Jason Price, Southampton's Alan Blayney and Sheffield Wednesday's Graeme Lee. Former Sunderland star Sean Thornton joined the club at the start of last season.
Ryan said: "We work very hard to persuade players to come to Doncaster. It is not easy when you look around Belle Vue but people join us because they can see the ambition of myself, the directors and the management."
With work on the club's new Lakeside Stadium due to be completed in December, Ryan believes the signs are good for a truly memorable season.
"If ever there was a year to win promotion, it would be this," he said.
"Of course, I still think we could have gone up last season.
"When I look at the three teams who went up – Colchester, Southend and Barnsley – we battered them all and we would have been a lot better equipped to handle the Championship than one or two of those teams.
"We are geared up to be in in the Championship, at least, we have got a first class squad, and we have got a real opportunity to win promotion."
While Ryan has stopped short of delivering any "public" ultimatum to Penny, it is unlikely that he will tolerate another season in League One.
Penney earned immense credit for winning two promotions and guiding Rovers from the Conference to the brink of the League One play-offs – but football managers are never allowed to live on former glories for long.
"I will make my judgment at the end of the season," said Ryan, when asked about Penney's future.
"We will just have to see how the season pans out. There's pressure on everyone to get promotion this season. That's what football's about, it's all about winning."

he's putting a lot of pressure on Penney

sounds like it could be a recipe for disaster. its going to be a tough league next year (glad we got out of it) in that quite a few sides started coming good towards the end of the season, notably Forest and Bristol. Crewe are always goin to be decent too along with Swansea and Huddersfield. Doncaster will do well to get in the top six and then even if they make it - the play offs are a lottery.

He likes to see his words in print and the sound of his own voice.

Don't know what his personal fortune is or owt, but unless that new stadium brings big bucks in, I can't see how they can keep on paying their high wage costs on crowds of 6,000 - ish.

Aye but £3mill JUST on players wages.

There's the other overheads and the assumption that the new ground WILL be sold out 23 times.

him and Penny hate each other. Staggered Penny is still there after hearing comments of Pikey Directors about him.

To be fair, his company has improved the breasts of many saggy titted ladies in Yorkshire. And for that we can only thank him.

He is indeed a **** though.
