Always my number 1 when asked who the best player you've seen play for Barnsley. Redfearn was brilliant, no question, but in terms of overall quality I think Hignett edges it. I don't think I ever saw him have a bad game.

Anderson Da Silva for me. Not everyones cup of tea i know, but on his day he was better than anyone i've seen in a tarn shirt.

Good player when he felt like it, but not in the same league as Hignett.

During the last few months of his stay with us I was starting to look at him in the same light as Glavin as been the best ever player I had seen in a BFC shirt. It makes me laugh when people mention Redfern in the same the vein, he was an important member of our promotion squad, that is in no doubt, but football wise, talent wise, ball control wise, not in the same league. Cue abuse.

Ronnie Glavin of course followed by De Zeeuw and Paul Futcher. Honorable mention to Hignett and Aylott

I'd compare Butterfield more with Redfearn to be honest, in terms of shooting off either foot, speed etc. But Redders hsad a better engine/defensive game.

I haven't seen a player before or since, that compares with Hignett. But Paddy does have that same genius gene.

You had to go and spoil yourself didn't you Mr White, comparing ButterCup to Redfearn is wrong on so many levels! We nearly started a friendship, but then you had to drop that bombshell

I was referring to their attributes. Very similar in terms of shooting/speed etc. Good captains, too. Led by example.

As I say (I never saw Glavin) no one compares to Hignett for me.

Hignett was class....as a player and a bloke.

Best REDS player I've seen is, without doubt, Glavin.

By the way, I wouldn't put Butterfield in my top 50.

John Hendrie, Ashley Ward and David Currie all come before Hignett in my opinion

I've seen them all from 1966 on and Butterfield would definitely be in my top 10.

I'm since mid 1970s, so you must really rate Butterfield as we've had some great players?

I can easily, quickly give you 10 whom I believe were/are better:-

    Glavin
    Hignett
    Banks
    McCarthy
    Redfearn
    Ward (Ashley)
    Aylott
    Hirst
    Watson (David)
    Leese
    Beresford

Sorry.....that's 11, but they just flowed off the keyboard!

In terms of pure quality and ability he is number two behind Ronnie.

    Mario, where you put Butterfield?

Good skilful player for me, but inconsistent, not cut it over a long enough period (yet) and doesn't score enough goals.

Did anybody actually click the link and watch his trick?

Strange how nobody has mentioned it.
