Not much more needs to be said about that. Mattis is everything we already knew about him. He doesn't have a ounce of skill about him. Usually when we see new players join and they play poor, we can usually see something about them. We had no competition to sign a forth division player, who's never made it at this level. Says it all for me it does.

Yep, you can't coach a 2nd division player to play in this league. The lad should have been substituted at half time. But no manager in the world, who as been back 3 times to Bury to bring him to Oakwell would even think about that.

I bet Davey was wishing he was coaching the kids, because if thats his judgement on signing players then there is little hope for BarnsleyFC. There is more to follow i'm afraid. (titanic)

Doesn't alter the fact that he was ***** in his first game and in a lot of other games when he didn't feel like it.

I'm all for fair criticism or even after performances over a period of time, but after one game when hes not even trained with the squad,at least give the kid some chance

he won a lot of headers not his fault no one would get on the end of them or win the second ball. not many players if any could jump up 2 leagues and put in a good performance in ther 1st game judge him after 4 or 5. if constantine doesnt get a hat-trick no doubt he will be useless aswell. let them settle a bit before all the harsh criticism

if he has not trained with the squad, then that makes everything ok then, It makes no difference to the fact he was garbage today and for him to stay on was a disgrace.

"Everything we ever knew about him"

You mean you've seen his game consistently in the last year (you're a Scout then?) or you mean you've popped over to a couple of Rivals Boards Hudds & Bury to find a few threads that support your argument that he's crap (because he's come from a lower league). If he turns out to be rubbish fair enough, but at least give the guy a a couple of games to get to know his team mates. You were against him before he'd put a Reds shirt on, and I'd love to know how many times you've seen him play?

I think a lot of people are obsessed with Nardiello,Why play Togwell on the wing, then swap him for Williams(never been a central midfielder), then move Mattis out wide.
Davey has about as much idea as my Gran , about tactics and she is blind and deaf.
Maybe he will sign her next?

Wrong. He played his heart out

Had 1 training session yesterday and was then thrown straight in today. He showed touches of class against a top of the table team. His header nearly went in and he broke up several attacks from the midfield, maybe a bit short of the pace but that will come.

He looked a decent addition to the squad to me.

hes better than healey, williams, wroe who all play center mid so an improvement to the squad in my eyes. but also should be 4th choice center midfielder behind, howard, togwell, mccann then mattis.

Dwayne Mattis has had one game..................................

and one training session with the squad.

The criticism of the lad and here shows an ignorance beyond believe.
He may or may not be good enough, but one game ffs, leave off him.

I'm sure all you critics will be man enough to personally apologise to the lad if he proves to be as good as his reputation.

You must have watched a different game to me then!

Whilst I agree you have to give these players time, it's hard to dress his performance up yesterday as anything but dire. He barely got touch for the first 20 mins and he failed to find a red shirt in the other 70. Nice chest down for Nardi chance, but he was well off the pace and looked suspiciously like an average league 2 player.

I hope, like you suggest, that he needs a few training sessions to get upto speed, but he was crap yesterday. More than anything, the manager has to take the blame for bunging him in for 90 mins against one of the top teams in the division, and moving Togwell into an alien position to him (thus rendering him useless as well).
