Just watched the news conference about the IPCC investigation into the Craig Sweeney child abduction and abuse case. After reading out a statement which seemed to largely consist of saying what a great job the police do under difficult circumstances, the IPCC Wales Commissioner (Tom Davies) was first asked why they had treated the case as a "kidnapping for gain" rather than checking the Police National Computer (PNC) (FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and discovering that the guy had previous for child abuse so it was likely to be a "child abduction with possible sexual motives". He answered that, as the report shows, there were opportunities when such checks could have been made but weren't and that one must draw one's own conclusions about that. WTF??????????????????????????????? I thought that was what we'd been paying the IPCC to do? The whole thing was a sickening whitewash from where I was sitting.
