Also suggests Nyatanga will be only out of contract player to get new offer, with Lita, Hemmings, Oates, Maris and Nana on their way. http://thestar.co.uk/sport/football...won-t-hang-about-with-retained-list-1-7231767
The article makes use of the insurance of plenty of 'understands' and 'believes' so really it's all just speculation. Thought I'd post it on here nevertheless as no one had.
The article is very suggestive without actually saying anything. They have probably just read a few threads on here and come up with an article.
I could have written that. Surprised they didnt add - the Star understands that although Barnsley would like to also re-sign Ben Pearson its understood that Manchester United are keen to see how he performs in a higher league next season
They have just made another story out of their article from last week. They said only one player would be offered a new contract. It's pretty obvious if they are right that it will be Nyatanga. Therefore it was obvious through the original story last week Cranie would be released.
Next story will be "No new contract for M'voto" Followed by "Johnson to sign new players in the summer"
I imagine with Cranie LJ will have sat down with him and said "if we offer you reduced terms will you accept?" Cranie said "no" so then we has released. If a formal contract was offered then not sure.
I think they reported the same thing last week. Since then I think Lee Johnson has hinted that a few more than just 1 will be offered a contract.
Barnsley will not be signing Lionel Messi this summer, The Star understands. The Reds cannot afford Barcelona's Argentinian genius, and so it is believed head coach Lee Johnson will instead look at other options. One of those alternatives will not be Cristiano Ronaldo, with Barnsley's budget insufficient to prise him away from Real Madrid. Even the lure of playing Southend at home in front of 7500 is unlikely to turn the Portuguese ace's head. The Star has learned that an unnamed footballer, with two legs, has attracted Johnson's attention, though. Barnsley have the financial clout to sign him, and he may or may not arrive at Oakwell in the close-season.
I'd be surprised to see Maris leave - thought he'd looked promising in the U21s..? Nana and Oates could go either way - I bet he releases both, but I'd like to see one or both of them get a crack next year
Don't understand why Maris would get a run out if he's not going to be offered a new contract. I'd be very surprised if Cranie isn't offered a new contract. It'll just be a case of how big the cut in wages would be.
