Compensation.
For what it's worth I think the 42 day thing is posturing on Gordon's part and it'll be abused just as the supposed anti terror laws have been used by local govt.
If we were serious about preventing terrorists getting here and being sure of who was in Britain, we'd secure our borders and opt out of the European Human Rights Act.

securing the borders is the main thing it is one thing letting people into the country and offering them help but it would be nice to have some kind of record as to exactly who the **** is here wouldn't it. £3k a day for fecks sake. So if i'm short on cash I can earn a few years wages just over a month by acting suspiciously down in london with a bag of fertiliser
The world is just upside down Labour government advocating 42 day detention. Conservatives against it and Cameron says "Isn't it clear the terrorists want to destroy our freedom and when we trash our liberties we are doing their work for them?"

"When you say, "Secure our borders" do you mean close them to immigration or start and be a lot more selective?

it reminds me of.............. the Monty Python sketch
are you here for the 28 day detention or the full42 days?

Well we're knackered cos we can't restrict EU inhabitants. But that's another issue.
Whilst old ladies are held up and made to discard their oil of olay before getting on a plane we seem only too willing to take back the British 'residents' found in Afghanistan. Of course they were doing computer courses weren't they ?
