I wouldnt have put Hassell in midfield, Van Homo looked a different player, brought Moore back in and what a difference he made, thought the subs were made at just the right time, so overall, not a bad day at the office for Davey, all things being considered.

I thought his first 11 was spot on

but his use of the subs bench was once again crazy and we got lucky in the end. For almost the entire second half we looked woeful and created nothing, the ponty end were booing and 10 men plymouth looked like scoring any time soon, davey couldn't change it about at all thought because all he had on the bench were strikers and so he left it late until stoppage time to bring two new strikers on.

Hassell's problem at the start of the season was Howard, now he has players at the side of him that also put the effort in
the focus is taken off Hassell.

    It was a midfield diamond

I ******* hate the midfield diamond. OK, it worked against 10 men, but I can't see it doing the same against a full compliment. It's worked once though, so expect to see it from now until the end of time.

Plus, I think if they had 11 on th pitch for the whole game......

we could have stuffed them by 4 or 5, Davey said in his post match comments that somedodies in for a real tonking, looking at our fixtures Southampton should be favourites.

if we had a bench with some variety on it and a manager able to change things after the game starts

we could have reacted to them going down to 10 men and probably got 4, as it turned out, they made their changes, we were unable to do so and were in danger of throwing away 2 points

Back four a million times more secure in the absence of Calamity Dennis.

Saturday's 1st XI was spot on, the subs bench baffles me though. Why have a bench full of wingers and strikers?!?! Leaves us with no cover if one of defenders gets injured. Wonder how Steele feels that he can't even warm the bench now, especially if Muller gets injured or sent off.

He's cost us a goal in more or less each of his last five games.

Moore and Foster should be first choice central defenders.

    good back up

but far too unreliable as a regular centre back and has been since the day we signed him

Have to say, Moore makes a huge difference

his presense, positioning, organising, just brings an air of confidence that otherwise isnt there. Thought both full backs did well, so yes, wouldnt change a thing at the back until forced, maybe Steele given a run out in the Cup.

Thought the full backs got foward well

thats the only way that formation can work. With Colace coming back from suspension, can we accommodate him, Hassell and De Silva?

Not sure we had a midfielder to speak of

Colace suspended, Devaney injured, not sure Davey had many other options. if both were available, I'd expect them to feature meaning 2 less strikers on the bench probably.

    Van Homoet got forward well

Not so sure about Kozluk. In my opinion a decent team would slaughter us down the wings with that formation.

Hassell could have covered with JCR moving into the middle.
