Crewe on Sat

Listening to Burton re the Crewe match, the guy seems a typical Barnsley man. He did not like last week and said he would rectify players throwing towel in. He seems to know what is required and he talks sensibly. Could be we might have the answer to our problems under our noses.
People and players seem to respect him and that counts a lot when trying to get the best from people

 

Just posted same thing! I'm in total agreement! He wants it more than Johnson and he's free!

 

I think the board will give him a couple of games. Good test this week with Crewe at home then Scunny and Gillingham both away. Five or six points from that lot and I reckon he has the job until the end of the season. One or no points and he will be out.

 

Hope you're wrong. Even if we win the next two I don't want him to be our manager. He's too valuable to our academy to put him in a role where in 18 months or so time he's out of work.

 

Is he tactically aware though?
Blotted his copybook straight away for me at Crawley by not doing the obvious and picking M'Voto to mark McLeod.
Damage was already done by the time he saw what the rest of us knew before the game kicked off.

I'll give him a few more chances but he obviously he doesn't even know his own players never mind anyone else's in this division

 

Can never remember a manager`s interview ever winning a game of football.

Every manager we get folk praise their interviews in the early days only to slag em off at a later date.

Team on pitch does the talking or not.

 

Exactly. Never understand why so much emphasis gets placed on post match interview. At the end of the day, no matter how you approach interviews you'll always get criticised if you're on a losing streak.

 

Even though it worked fairly well with Simon Davey, I wouldn't be going down the route of promoting from the academy. As i've said a few times I see Burton and Branson as two of the very top people at the club. I'd rather Burton stayed long term in the academy then be our manager for 12-18 months and lose him and at the same time try and replace him in the academy.
