Shouldnt they be playing 20Twenty cricket now. Getting as many runs on the board as possible, leaving us some time to have alittle bowl at Austrailla tonight. We got Bell knocking singles once every 6 bowls or something. Bell should now be hitting shots trying for the boundry, what ever the outcome of his shots will be a bonus, 4, 6 and Out! Or am i talking rubbish? :S
You're talking rubbish England can still lose this if they collapse. Bell playing the anchor role at on end and Strauss getting the runs at the other is the most sensible approach. If we can keep going at 3.5 to 4 runs and over - may be picking up the pace gradually we can get a lead of 400 and have half an hour at them tonight. We definately dont want to lose this game by doing something silly. A Draw though it would be disappointing is OK
Vaughan should run out and chin Bell! Ensuring of course to land the blow with enough force to cause Bell to fall into his stumps. Then let Flintoff or Pieterson have a slog - either of those would exceed Bell's score within an over and Bell's faced about 60 balls!
Not talking rubbish A draw is the most likely result. I don't really think we will bowl out the Aussies as the pitch is too good, its a shame losing a days play has probably cost us. What I meant was we dont want to do anything silly and lose the match. In any case we are playing 20 20 cicket now
RE: Not talking rubbish We've got 8 wickets in hand, we can afford to do something silly. Were not hitting boundrys enough, with Petierson and Flintoff to come, bell wants to stand on his stumps accidently.
RE: Bell's run rate is pretty much the same as Strauss's Agreed now - Bell has upped his run rate. But he was on about 10 from his first 40 balls. My point was that the upping in pace we're seeing now should have started 30-45 minutes ago.
we should be trying to score more quickly that's for sure. its not a game not to be won, not left to drift to a draw. Teams rarely score over 300 to win a test mast on a 5th day pitch, especially one that will be turning enough for Giles to cause problems on.
RE: Not talking rubbish not bell's fault, he's probably been told to play his normal game. tactics will have come from Vaughan and Fletcher in the dressing room.
How much fun will it be watching Petierson and Flintoff in this situation. I just hope for a wicket shortly after strauss's 100, and then role on the entertainment.
Like Boycs said Bell is No 4 so he should be able to cope , and he has done fine by me. What would have been the point in Pietersen and Flintoff getting in and getting out. Warne is very hard to get away by ANYBODY on this pitch.
RE: You were saying? OK, credit where it's due, Bell has done very well. At Edgebaston he went cheaply in the first knock and made a torrid twentysomething in the second. I didn't think he had enough ability to take the attack to the Aussie bowlers but it seems he has. Presumably under instruction to put a patient innings together then try a late knockabout. Yes, Flintoff and Pietersen went cheaply but they will have been told to slog at anything as a declaration is surely imminent and the game is now max runs in min time. So, credit to Bell - splendid innings on reflection. But is one day enough to knock the Aussies over? I'd hate to see us get a draw with the Aussies 7 or 8 wickets down.
