Not that I'm saying Wiki is the font of all knowledge, but it reckons not much more than half of that. Where are your stats from? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pelé#Career_statistics
I'm old enough to remember the fuss surrounding his 1,000th goal so I just googled Pele career goals. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.history.com/.amp/this-day-in-history/pele-scores-1000th-goal
Apparently 526 of his goals were in unofficial friendlies and tour games. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1099349-top-5-things-pele-does-not-want-you-to-know https://www.sportbible.com/football...ts-lionel-messi-or-cristiano-ronaldo-20201022 Which I'm guessing is why the disparity is so great.
Not sure how true it is but according to this he hasn’t broke the record yet, https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&r...33628934.ece&usg=AOvVaw1SVC_tZWElS5oQJUsFFZRW
Cheers for that, there was no internet back in 1969 so nobody disputed the fact he'd scored his 1,000th goal. It was all over the news at the time which made me query the original post. Sounds like it was fake news of the day.
I think it's fair to say Pele scored all those goals, it's just he counted friendlies. His official record is still pretty phenomenal.
