We really don't know how to play against technical sides, would have preferred France.

France aren't the same kind of team - they use big central midfield players like Makelele and rely on pace going forward. They lost to Scotland twice for gods sake. Croatia are a very technically gifted side who keep the ball well and frustrate teams - and we can't cope with that.

Could someone explain what a Technical team is please ?

and how this differs to a team that contains players such as Rooney, Gerrard and Lampard

RE: Could someone explain what a Technical team is please ?

Maybe because the Croatians know how to play together, and are calm and comfortable in possession, rather than panicking as soon as they're closed down and kicking the ball up towards the striker aimlessly, or losing the ball and then committing a foul as Rooney is so brilliant at.

Lets get something sorted here...............we have some of the best players in the WORLD

We, England, should be winning the European cup and World cup regularly
And we should have been doing this since 1966
Why - because throughout that time we have had some brilliant players and some of the best players in the world

The football market shows you this - put players on the market such as Rooney, Lampard and Gerrard and how much would they be worth..........just one of these players is worth more than the full Croatian team !!!!
Barcelona one of the top teams in the world have been after Lampard for years

So talk about technical team is a load of bull..............what we need is a team that wants to play for England
And the only way to get that is by doing one thing..................appoint a manager that the players RESPECT

And if a player thinks he is bigger than the Engalnd team then the manager should be big enough to out him
No matter what the Sun and the Mirror thinks.

Team of players who'll work hard and battle for their country. I'll start. Nicky Butt. Alan Smith. Kevin Davies. Common feature: They're not very good. Top players care more about club honours and being fit for their clubs. Might be sad, but its true. We overhype how good these players are: Gerrard might be world class at times, so might Rooney, but Lampard? Wayne Bridge? Shaun Wright Phillips? Jermain Defoe? Darren Bent? Alan Smith? Stewart Downing? Phil Neville? etc etc etc etc? We don't have the sort of squads to cope with countries like Italy, France, Argentina, Brazil, even Croatia. We're overhyped, and we're a quarter final team at best, which probably shows in hindsight how well Sven did.

We don't know how to play as a team, and until we do, we won't achieve anything.

As good as they are they need to know how to play as a team

They need to know what their role is and where they should play. Teams that arfe technically good know exactly what their role is - and play to that system!

Thats wrong
Ever watched Brazil........
There seems to be a goal keeper and a centre back and the rest are attackers :D
But Brazil go on to the pitch as do the Germans and Italians with a self beleif that cannot be shaken
We need the same self beleif and commitment

May have been true years ago but not anymore

The England players didn't have a clue of what they were supposed to be doing on Wednesday. Lampard and Gerrard didn't know whether to go forward or not.

Look at the good teams in the Premiership Arsenal, Man Utd , Chelsea - they all know what their role is in the team. There are individual players but they are backed up by well drilled team mates who know how to defend and attack. You vcan't stick eleven good players together if they don't know what to do!

Didn't France beat us too the last we played them competitively?

In the group stages of Euro 2004. And we beat Croatia in the same group. Notwithstanding last week's result, I'll stick with Croatia.

The media again are spouting about, unlucky draw etc.If we are to qualify we have to beat the so called lesser teams,as well as the top ones. The problem is we are not good enough. The expectations are too high we are living on our past glory,40bloody years ago.Like the poor souls in S6 who believe they are still a big club.

Spot on mate. Croatia wre nothing special last week. Our players are either not good enough or living in the comfort zone with millions in their bank a/cs. Select a team from Championship and Division One, and we might see the passion.

Can't understand this media reaction...

Greece aside, I reckon it was the BEST draw we could have hoped for. Another manager, another campaign, other players back available and we'll have no problems. I doubt Croatia will be able to keep up this run of form over a few seasons either. If we don't qualify from that group then we really are going backwards. It'll be reyt.

Agreed

We should be able to qualify from that group. I don't see it as a bad draw at all, just an amusing one if anything.

I do think we ought to try and arrange a friendly for the free weekend (is it February?). Take the opportunity to start preparations early and give us as much chance as possible to sort things out and get some momentum going again.
