It's not surprising that Brian is speaking out in the press. Cryne is saying he's wanted and yet they have still to even get in touch with his agent about a new contract http://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10309~1328815,00.html
Because in 6 months he is free to negotiate with other clubs anyway and can agree a deal to leave with barnsley getting nothing. Also the longer we leave it to tie him up for a couple more years, the lower his value becomes. ie with 3 years left: £5m, with 2: £3m, with 1: £1.5, with only 8 or 9 months: £1m and so on until he's worth nothing.
You know this free to negotiate with other clubs in January. Something that everyone on here seems to believe. It's absolute ballacks. In January, he's free to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club, but home nation clubs are not allowed to even speak with him.
Jay is right. I think ur too tho, but rules have changed since then. I think domestic clubs can only negotiate with a player when they have 1 month remaining only. It is 6 months for foreign clubs only. I agree though that we must negotiate now, and if we cant strike a deal then he must be sold IMO while we can still get some reasoable money for him.
a) he still has a year left on his contract b) no one has come in for him, (despite his agent stating it was Everton, then Sheff Utd, then Wigan, then Bolton, then Wolves...)
