Key now is to retain and build. I would expect likes of Luke Thomas and George Miller to move on. Arguably we are light in left back role. But under new manager could we see return to form of Clarke Odour. What next for players returning from loan Ritzmaier, Aitchison, Simoes and Christie-Davies. Also in Devante Cole and Herbie Kane I believe we have 2 match winners but will they play to their potential. I fully expect 3-4 new faces join. I know I am excited for the season ahead and see the conveyor belt of talent keep turning. COME ON YOU REDS!
History suggests it's a bit early to be making too many assumptions about the makeup of next season's squad!
Too much deadwood that needs cutting! Ritzmaeir Thomas Chaplin Miller Adeboyejo Frieser Christie-Davies Halme All not good enough. If we want to progress then better quality is needed.
The depth is there. Any incoming players must be good enough to make the strongest 11. Then the depth can filter down. We'll be reigt
To suggest Frieser is “deadwood” astounds me. He may not be premier quality but neither is he how you describe him.
A week ago I would have agreed (with the exception of Frieser) New manager could work wonders with any one of them though. I'm interested to see what Schopp does with the full squad in pre season.
A stitch in time saves nine and a rolling stone gathers no gloss...or is it moss? Edit: I also think the attack is weak
The names I mentioned, particularly Frieser & Chaplin, from what Iv seen they both offer no threat whatsoever. Yes they have bundles of energy, but that counts for nothing at this level. They have done a job so far, but to progress we need better quality. As for Halme, we’ve far too many players in his position already, at present he’s a fringe player & his wages could be used elsewhere in my opinion.
Barnsley cannot afford a squad of players who would be automatic picks for a top championship team. Our best players need support from players who are prepared to ‘sweat blood’ for the cause and I would personally include Dom Frieser in that.
Having read both sides of the discussion Sam's got a point. Frieser and Chaplin will run about a bit but lack quality. Thomas isn't good enough. I like Halme but Sam's right he's just picking up a wage with everyone fit he doesn't play. We need better. Only one I differ on is Christie Davies. It's folly to discard a player without seeing them play.
Chaplin, halme and freiser aren't deadwood. Vic earned his new deal big season for him. Thomas has had off field issues so deserves more time and we have seen nothing of Christie davies.
I,d like to see christie davies given a chance especially now Alex as left, been out in the wilderness since he signed, was well thought of at Liverpool, must be worth a look, the lad deserves that at least..
I am not sure that Thomas"s issues afford him more time, he had a lot of appearances before his problems & he wasn"t up to it , hope he gets better with his issues but its time to move him on , also Vic as likeable as he is never inspired me when he started a game , sometimes as an impact sub he looked good but he needs to bring more to the table , I am not sure he ever will , as for Chaplin , he is certainly not deadwood but I hope the new coach can use him better to realise any potential , it would not upset me if he is moved on or he stays , I am not convinced but I would like him to prove me wrong .
