I know we need to keep a tight ship when it comes to paying out for players - but we need to be very careful when not paying that extra bit more for players that could be that extra bit special. Prime example was Sheffield United when they told Diego Maradona that they would sign him - only to give backword because he cost a bit more at £400k than what they were willing to pay. And instead signed Alex Sebella for £160k.
And then too big. Imagine how large he'd have got with the takeaways of London Road and The Wicker calling his name every night after training......
I always thought this story was a bit fanciful about him going to the Blunts with maybe just a grain of truth somewhere. A bit like us being after John Carew and Freddy Ljungberg in the 90s. The best thing is that I saw an interview with Maradona and the interviewer brought the supposed link up. He seemed genuinely disappointed that it didnt come off and through Pedro Verde he knew all about the city and Dem Blades. V funny.
