Anyone know of any? Not road racing or anything that requires lycra like. I'm a fat ******* wanting to be forced to get out on the bike over the summer. Cheers.
Has Google been deleted on your computer? Barnsley Road Club and Birdwell Wheelers are two I've heard of. Don't know if they're all about racing or also do more leisurely stuff.
Contacted the Wheelers, I was after some recommendations from like minded individuals on here. Just to reinforce the search results of the faceless conglomerate that is Google, yer know. Stop being smart or I'll start quoting random words from your posts.
Always think that sounds like summat you cough up when you've got a particularly chesty cough. "Pass us a tissue, I've got conglomerate all over me hands."
There is a "Tour De France" supplement in most of the supermarkets at the minute (seen it in Cortonwood Morrisons and Tesco), which lists 3 cycle clubs in Barnsley. The two listed on the thread and another that does charity rides. I haven't got any more details than that though.
you might struggle, finding a cycling club that doesn't ride on the road and/or wear lycra. trail bike and the TPT for you my boy
I had the same problem as you a couple of years ago when training for a coast to coast ride. Was dead against wearing Lycra but when you get to the stage where you're doing 50k+ rides it's unavoidable unless you want to be in severe pain for several days. The best ways to wear them under some normal shorts
Kinell Dyson; if a 48yo 17st fat knacker like me can don the lycra every weekend, I'm sure you have nothing to worry about. I lost 2 stone on a road bike last year - lycra; it's the future. And riding in a club is hard; there's a skill to it, and unless you started as a youngster its very difficult. I know ! ! Cos I find it hard. Get a couple of mates to do the same and just get out and ride.
I'm the same, l enjoy cycling but don't like to use the roads that much (as a motorist I find bikes on the road to be something of a menace, particularly those who insist on riding 12ft from the kerb). The TPT isn't bad but it seems very badly maintained in some areas and far too narrow to be shared by cyclists/walkers etc. Now the weather is getting better I might try that Monsal trail, about 16 miles to the end and back with not much of a gradient so could be a good ride to start off with.
